MG MGB Technical - Overdrive rear casing won't go on!
I partially disassembled my overdrive for new gaskets, etc and am in the process of putting it back together. The rear casing was tough to get off and it's no easier to get back on. It appears that the rear-most bearing (still in the casing) is very tight on the shaft. At this moment, I lack about 1/2" getting the rear casing on. I don;t want to force it and break something. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! David |

Hi David: You maybe having a problem with internal spline line-up. The LH & D type o/d's have two sets of internal splines and must be aligned so the 3rd motion shaft can be fully inserted into the rear roller bearing. Check the Bentley manual for the align procedure. Good luck: Rich Boris 67B roadster |

David I think there is a utube video on this on John Twists site. Seems like good info. |

I looked back at the manual and I think you're right Rich. Thanks for the info Karl, I'll look that up. ~David |

That You Tube video helped a lot. There are 2 sets of inner splines (the annulas and th sun gear). I realized I did not have them aligned! It's together now. ~David |
