MG MGB Technical - People Here Change Lifes

To make a long story less short, I recently purchased a 72 mgb roadster during recovery from a Motorcycle accident. I can't ride my Harley due to injuries, so I was trying to lift myself up by purchasing something with as much class and fun as my Harley. I chose to try a British Sports car.I was pretty depressed during the recovery and even more once I bought my car. I was on crutches and wasn't able to inspect it the way I should have. I found lots of things needing to be done I hadn't planned on and didn't really feel like I had the talent to do myself or the money to have it done. After finding this tech board, I completed a complete brake over-haul, have an exhaust ready to go in and have identified my front suspension needs and feel like I can manage those with your input. Then I can get back to the interior work and hopefully be ready to enjoy next spring driving this classic. Your input sometimes helps in more ways than you'll ever realize. I am very exciting to be a BCC owner and meeting such nice people here. Thanks so much and keep up the great work.

Sincerely,
Doug

Great story Doug. Can't wait to see pictures of the car on the road!

Way to go Tom. Not too many of us purchase these cars with no surprises so you're not alone. The people in this forum are incredibly talented and extremely helpful. A great group. Lots of luck with your classy choice.

Steve/Dan,
Yes, there are certainly very talented people here and take their personal time/effort to help others. A great place to get good advise and meet nice people. Hopefully I'll be able to share some of my own learnings in the future.

Best regards,
Doug

Welcome aboard!

Good luck Doug. Must admit that my 73B gives me less grief than the motorbikes I owned when I lived in England back in the 60's!

Doug-

Great story (and inspirational)! Sounds like you're well on the mend...otherwise you couldn't fit into our little tiny cars. (I know, I wrenched my back this past weekend and haven't even considered trying to squeeze into my B...a couple more muscle relaxants and I'll either be able to get into the car or I'll be just fine floating above it ;>)

Good going!

Doug,
When I tore my achilles back in 2000, my MG's kept me busy. There is always something you can do in the garage or while watching the boob tube (-: Give us a yell if you get stuck or just want to bs cause you're burnt out from working on it.

Nice story Doug. As I have said in the past, everyone should own an MG. No better medicine than cruisin' around, or just puttering under the hood. Great stress reliever.

Why not make compulsory that all world leaders must own, use and maintain an MG. I truly believe that most of the worlds problems would go away as they would then communicate with other owners on their same level and there would simply not be enough time left to create new world problems.

... and be too busy scraping knuckles to shoot missles at one another!

The MG is penance for riding a POS like a Harley

Trying to start a flame war tonight? Ban IP please.
Steve Simmons

As an infantile, yet inappropriately paternalistic and authoritarian, self-styled BBS 'leader', I find it appropriate to yelp for bans as soon as a post appears that I dislike.

This yelping and whining gives me a sense of power that is totally lacking in my non-vitual life.

Rather than ignore the post and continue with whatever the thread is doing, my ego forces me to respond. I can't help it as I am pathetically weak willed. Perhaps it's guilt...I do come from the land of Free Speech.

Steve Simmons

LBC owners likely have more similarities with motorbike drivers than other 4-wheeled convertibles. I can't count the number of times it's been an ideal day for top-down motoring and I've seen a big $ convertibles with top up and windows closed. Are they waiting for a nicer day? Many LBCs are top down unless driving through the eye of Ivan.

Whoever this guy is trying to create flames in all these threads, should be banned. 'Tis normally such a friendly place! :)
Steve Simmons

There's always one person that tries to ruin a good place, but fortunately there's so many good people here they have zero effect.

Thanks to 99.9999% of the good, generous people here.

Best regards,
Doug

Well said! Seems that guy was looking for someone to anger and I gave him someone. Too bad I'm enjoying myself far too much today to bother with getting angry. :D

Off topic, was there a gentleman from this BBS in Aruba or am I confusing it with another one?
Steve Simmons

Aruba, Jamaica, ooo I wanna take you Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama Key Largo, Montego, baby why don't we go Off the Florida Keys..................

You will now have that song running through your head for the rest of the day! :-)
The Wiz

Wiz, I must now kill you. Or maybe I'll wait until that bloody song gets out of my head so I can think. :}

Doug,

I got my 77 MGB with a roll bar cause my girlfriend wouldnt ride my motorcycle with me. We looked at several MGs but when she saw the 77 with the roll bar, something clicked and said we'll take this one.
