MG MGB Technical - Poor quality hoses

Not sure if I am unlucky or whether quality of radiator hoses are now dreadfull. last year I bought a GT while in England. To be safe I ordered and fitted a full set of fuerl & water hoses (from MS&C). I noticed that the wire hose clamps supplied bottomed out before tightening on the radiator hoses so bought a set of Jubille hose clamps. First day out the bottom radiator hose failed; small hole surrounded by flaky rubber. Fortunately a mg workshop was nearby and supplied another new hose which had a thicker wall. Few months later the top hose split (just before shipping car back to Canada) so fitted a new "Kevlar reinforced" hose from another MG workshop. Yesterday, after less than 300 miles, the top hose failed. A three quarter inch split. No sign of reinforcing so sectioned the hose. Not one sign of reinforcing and rubber very soft compared to second replacement bottom hose. I realise that in UK most dealers will get their hoses from Moss Europe so may all have been from same source.

Comments/suggestions appreciated

I hope engine / head is not damaged but further investigation will need to wait till next weekend

I won't fit Kevlar hoses - they are absolute rubbish and will split without warning, they have no reinforcement at all except the chopped Kevlar which does nothing to contain a split.

Find genuine rubber hoses and only use Jubilee/Terry/ worm drive clips - the wire ones cut into the hose too badly.

I've had similar problem with oil cooler hoses - took two back to you-know-who before I gave up and ordered some from MGOC. Rubber was damaged/cut down to the reinforcement. They need to be inspected before use!

Thanks for response; perhaps there is some Kevlar in the hose then. I had thought it would be woven reinforcing like the original rubber ones. There is nothing visible in the wall of the hose.

I have noticed the wire clamp problem as well and my kevlar hose is cracking as well.

who sells decent parts these days?

I'd gladly do without a supercharger kit in exchange for a supplier that sold good rubber steering boots and fuel lines, chrome, and gaskets!
