MG MGB Technical - Pre 1968 upper steering column bushing replacement

I need to do this on my '67. The manual says to remove the inner column from the car. Is it possible to do just the upper bushing with the column still in place? Thanks.

I'm not sure about this. The new bush is plastic, about 2 inches long, and is split lengthways, but I'm not sure you have enough room at the top of the column to open the split and get it round the shaft. In fact, thinking about it, I'm almost sure you can't do this without removing the shaft.
You only need to remove the inner shaft. Uncouple the UJ. Take off the column switches & steering wheel and the inner should just pull upwards and out.

FWIW, the test mule column I have had a rolled edge preventing removal and installation of the factory plastic bushing without removing the shaft

Thanks guys.
