MG MGB Technical - Rack Lube
Well , I finally installed my new rack boots after cleaning out the incredible amount of rust and crap in there , took a tip from this list and installed synthetic motor oil as I had bought the cheapest , nasty Taiwanese poly boots back before I decided how much I like the car and someone here suggested synthetic would not attack the cheap boots . Anyway , the synthetic motor oil really helped ! my steering is smoother than I thought was possible , just like recommended - I cannot thank you guys enough ! . I also re-centered the rack as the steering wheel was off a bit , now it's fine . -Nate

Removing the "rust and crap" probably helped a little ...

Yes , the top portion of the rack bar (??teethed thing) was rather rusty , it took some time to wire brush it to shiny steel . The car steers nearly as if power equipped now . of course , it also picked up a shimmy that comes and goes between 60 ~ 70 MPH , I think I'll try swapping the front wheels to the back and see what happens there . -Nate
