MG MGB Technical - Rebuild Kit

Hi,

Does anyone know why the new seals in my Moss #180-205 brake master cylinder repair kit are not the same as those in my Lockheed from my 1971 "B"? They are .25 thick and mine are .188 and the ID of the seals is smaller than my originals. I've looked online and it seems like all the parts suppliers sell the same kit.

Dennis. This is a question which should be asked of the supplier of the kit. Since you note a Moss part number, I would contact their technical services people and request their advice. With very few exceptions, this group is a group of amateur mechanics without a background in industrial design. We can give you our best ideas. But, those best ideas might not be correct. Thus, contact with someone who is qualified to give out such information is the best place to start. Moss has a technical services section. I believe that Motorhead also does. Then, there are the places like Apple Hydraulics which rebuild such systems on a regular basis.

Any of the above can give you a more informed opinion that I am able to. Sorry.

Hi Les,

I have spoken to the tech guys at Moss and they have no answer for me. I have to think that maybe when this cylinder was rebuilt previously the piston assembly was replaced with a similar but different one. I have been trying to find other british cars that maybe used the same Lockheed master cylinder but different seals. I have a flyer from Apple Hydraulics that I picked up at a car show and have visited their website. I will give them a call and see if they have any answers. They also seem to have the best price on a rebuilt, $125 plus core.

Thanks....................Dennis
