MG MGB Technical - Removing gearbox adapter block

Hello,

Can someone explain how I remove the adapter block from the gearbox, I took the overdrive unit off to have it tested and following through the haynes manual, it said to remove the adapter which (which wasn't necessary in the end). Unfortunately I started the removal process and now feel I need to get it off to replace the gasket (which is damaged). I have shown photos but just can't seem to separate the selector arm to release this block.

Please can you advise

Many thanks

Alex Davies

Push the selector forward until all the rod ends are in line - then swing the arm downwards out of the rod ends and pull the adapter off.

Thanks for your response, just to clarify, what are you saying should be in line? By pushing the selector forward is that towards or away from the spring?

Many thanks,
Alex Davies

Push selector down - black arrow - so that white line & black line are level - then swing selector round - white arrow.

If the back shaft is down in the way, lift it up - can't see clearly in your pic.
