MG MGB Technical - Reverse Light Switch

Hi
I posted this in the general section yesterday by mistake----
My reverse light switch has packed in and my local garage has offered to try and change it while the car is up on their ramps for an MOT, how accessible is it and which side of the gearbox is it on? it's not very clear in my manual.
For info, reverse lights are not part of the MOT

Ron,

The switch is on the left side as you face the front of the car (pardon my Yankee handicap, but I've never been able to learn the "near side"- "off side" terminology you guys use). I have replaced these switches but it's been a long time. ' Think what I did was to place a jack under the transmission, remove the four crossmember bolts and gently lower the transmission/drive-shaft until it hits the permanent crossmember. At this point, I can't remember if you can access the switch by reaching up from below on the left (near?) side, or if you have to remove the gear lever and reach it from there. I do remember that it can be replaced without major surgery. It is much easier to access than the overdrive isolation switch.

You can see it quite clearly in this diagram from the Moss US catalog: http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=29014

FWIW,

Hi Allen
Thanks for the info, now that I've had a crawl under the car it doesn't look as bad as I first thought.
