MG MGB Technical - roaring 66 MGB

I have a 1966 MGB thats been restored complete with new overdrive and rebuilt rear end gears checked at a shop I pulled them out and sent them over to them to be checked out; But with top up on the interstate driving this car is loud and louder at 65 and 70;and when you let off gas its a high pitch wine;get back on it and then comes the roar; Is this normal or do you think it could be the drive shaft its used with new universals joints. I don,t remember it being that loud inside the cabin before;

Ernie,

Fortunately, I have never had to go into a MGB rear end: but from a previous life of messing with Detroit scrap iron, I know that, if you don't get the clearances right, the rear end is going to howl. I don't know who rebuilt and/or checked that rear end but I think I would have them re-check it.

See you in Townsend on Saturday!

If you donot get the pre load right on that rear end it will really sing and howl as the mesh of the teeth is not correct. It took me three trys to get my new stuff correct and quiet the whine. Do not underestimate the importance of the correct torque on the pinion nut etc.
