MG MGB Technical - seat removal/new

I have a both seats in a 72 roadster v8 fastened through the carpet-this is not the firmest of ways to hold things down ! I am planning on taking carpet and underlay out and replacing with modern insulation and cutting carpet and underlay around seat runners -also is it possible to put runners further back -I am 6'2'' so more legroom needed ! any ideas

You're in luck! yes you can move the seat rails back about 6 inch's for what ever good it will do! It will only give you about 2 inch more leg room provided that your seat frames are not so worn out that they are already laying back against the wall.I'm 6'1 and have plenty of leg room. But at my age getting in and out is a whole differnt issue.

I've just had this problem, no matter how far back you put the runners the seat back lock lever will hit the inner sill and thats all you get. I cut out channels in the carpet and felt and I feel comfortable , I'm 6.2 but long in the torso so seat height is the problem.

The seat runners should sit on wooden slats, and have thick metal spacers between them and the floor going through holes in the carpet. The slats are slightly thinner than the spacers. The results is firm seat mounting with the carpet compressed slightly but not that much. But even iof you don't have the spacers and slats I can't see the seat mountings being loose, although the runners may be bowed making adjustment fore and aft stiff. If you want the seat further back you will have to drill new holes in the floor, and whether you use captive nuts or not is up to you. But at only 2" taller than me you must have very long legs as when my seat is fully back in the standard runner position I can't fully depress the clutch, and seat height isn't an issue either.
