MG MGB Technical - Selmar vehicle alarm

Hi

I have a 77 BGT fitted with a type of alarm "selmar".
The wiring is a real mess. Does anyone know where I might find a suitable wiring diagram. I've searched the Internet but to no avail.

Would I be better removing it completely ?

Those it still have the key, and key barrel switch (generally on the back wing) if not it's definately not worth looking at. It worked on a trembler or on the courtesy light switches. Bear in mind the key switch is of the same quality as the door locks!
A good steering wheel lock like disklok will keep a well equipped thief at bay for ten minutes or more.

And a hidden switch in the fuel pump circuit will allow him to get it out onto the road before it conks out, and it would be a brazen thief who would stay with the car. Unfortunately anyone who nicks a B wants a B, and will quite likely know many of the dodges.

I have a battery cut out in the heel board behind the drivers seat but with a small bypass wire so just the alarm is powered. It's very handy when working on the car and when I park the car somewhere I can just remove it. The battery is totally isolated then. No one can come along and start the car or fiddle with the lights or any other of the switches. You could bypass it of course but it would take a lot of fiddling! And without the big, red key there it's actually quite hard to see where the switch the key fits into actually is so it's not obvious the battery cut off is there.

Selmar alarms were unreliable when they were new, they only ever served to annoy the neighbours. I'd remove it and get a Thatcham approved alarm if you think you need one.

Messy wiring will always cause problems and will immobilise the car for you, especially when you least want it to.
