MG MGB Technical - Starter Problems-75 MGB

I have a recently purchased a 75 MGB. The starter has been a little slow turning after the first few revolution. Now it is staying engaged for a few seconds after I release the key from the start position. It has always started but just seem to bog down right before it fires. The starter appears to be a newer replacement (it is clean without any build up.) I checked the connections at the selonoid and found a frayed wire. It was corrected but didn't change the symptoms. Any suggestions?? It has had the ignition switch replaced in the recent past also. I have heard that some of the "replacement" swiches aren't of very good quality, could this be causing the problem??
Any help would be appreciatted.

Hi Dave.

I suspect that someone has been 'chasing' a fault in this area for some time, but it was never really resolved.

Try starting it with the headlamps on, and get someone to watch for the headlamps going dim, this will eliminate several possible bad connections.

Also take a look at the engine to chassis earth strap.

My son's roadster had a similar problem - we took it out - admired it and put it back carefully - works perfectly - yes we added another earth in the engine bay where we can keep an eye on it (SOP for As and Bs).

Have fun with her !

Thanks for your replys.
I'll check out the ground(earth) strap and thanks for the advice on adding another.
