MG MGB Technical - stub pin

On my midget 1500 1977 when I tighten up the top nut on the stub pin it tightens up the steering, can I over tighten this and cause a drag?
G Scott

Yes, there are some very thin shims which go between the top 'step' of the kingpin and the trunnion.

If tightening the nut makes it stiff, you need to add shims until it doesn't bind, but doesn't introduce vertical play.

BTW you have posted in the MGB section. MGBs work the other way - adding shims makes it tighter.

Dave thanks for your reply and I will source some shims. About the posting on the MGB site I am not sure how I managed that.
Cheers
G Scott
