MG MGB Technical - SU Fuel Pumps

Hi All,

I have a 1974 MGBGT project and a 1974 MGBGT parts car. The project car has a "DEAD" after-market fuel pump. The parts car had an original pump. I removed the parts car pump and tried it on the project; it didn't work. I now have a new pointless/solid state pump from Moss, part number 377-255. It has been a while since I removed the pump from the parts car and I don't remember how it was oriented. I think that the part that "Bentley" calls the "Delivery Flow Smoothing Device Cover" was mounted up. Is that correct? If not, what is the correct orientation or does it matter?

Thanks

The "Delivery Flow Smoothing Device Cover" or what I like to call the "top hat" is pointing up. that also has the outlet port on the top and inlet port on the bottom. See the picture below. Cheers - Dave

Hi Folks:
regarding SU fuel Pumps

Reviewing at the latest Moss and VB catelogs, I was floored to see that the points sets for the SU fuel pump has more than tripled. I know that the BP, Euro, and Canada dollar have risen in value recently, but could that be the cause this price spike? or is there another sane reason.

Thanks: Rich Boris 67 B roadster

It could be that Moss and VB have started getting the points sets from Burlen Fuel Systems, they are considerably more expensive through them, but the sets operate much better than the ones that Moss and VB carried for years. The last I ever bought from them, they were getting from Intermotor in England and as far as I was concerned, they were junk. When we were in England three years ago, I stopped and toured the BFS facility and as I was leaving I asked the technician that I has spent some time talking to if they got their point sets from Intermotor, he just grinned and shook his head. When I said that I ddn't think so adding that I thought that intermotor was selling junk, the grin changed into a big smile and the head shake turned into a nod. Cheers - Dave
