MG MGB Technical - Support Appreciated
Good day all, Just a quick note of appreciation for the invaluable and generous support available from both our global collection of characters and, in this case, one of our spectacular performers in particular. Late last year I purchased a transmission with overdrive to replace our simple 4 speed box. The price was right but, as it was completely dissassembled, it showed up as a box of mystery parts. Through diligent effort, wisdom, humor, experience, and a few well placed clonks on the head, Chris Betson pulled these parts together and brought this transmission to life. This would normally be a pretty simple project for Chris but the challenge was that he lives exactly 4000 miles and 6 time zones from my workbench. This meant that he had to do all the work "over the ether" while using my inexperienced hands and unknowing eyes. In spite of very clear directions, I managed to interchange every second part and reverse the installation of the remaining parts. I can't imagine his frustration level at some of my antics. The good news is that I am now quite expert on multiple tear downs and rebuilds of the MGB transmission. The best news is that, after 4 months of bench work, the transmissionectomy was done last weekend and the overdrive came to life as soon as the switch was thrown! Chris is a strong part of our hobby and freely volunteers his wisdom when asked for help. It's difficult to properly thank someone for that kind of support but I do want to share his contribution with you. I am very proud to be part of a community that includes people like Chris Betson providing such dedicated and generous support. Thanks Chris and all the rest of you characters! Joe |

Great posting Joe. I have e-mailed Chris on other issues and have found his advice and information invaluable. Truly impressive to see the experts we have and the true spirit that MG enthusiasts have. |

Joe - very well said. Like you and many others (I'm sure), I would like to add my thanks to Chris for all his help. I specifically appreciate his willingness to share what is his - knowledge with a gentle hand (without altitude) - a true and gifted teacher. |

Let me also jump on this band wagon and say that Chris took the trouble to provide me with detalied instructions (including a drawing) about how to install a new dynamo in my 67GT. I had only had the car three weeks and this was my first repair. It really touched me that a total stranger took the time and effort to do this. Others who have also helped me especially, not wanting to single out names are Paul Hunt and also Les Bengston. From me too a big thanks to you all for keeping the spirit of owning an MG alive pAul |
