MG MGB Technical - The Sweet Drive of Success!

Ahhhhhhh!! Finally got the B back on the road after a month of part-time (i.e. after work) full x-member-off rebuild of the front suspension, steering and brakes.

Just had her at the alignment shop today (where I discovered I had to re-tighten one of my brake hoses!), and took her to the WOF (=MOT inspection) shop, where they diagnosed a loose tie rod nut (now tight) and leaking exhaust flange - soon dealt with using some exhaust sealing cement - which cured a loud rattle I'd thought due to tappets/valves :). Removed and realigned the steering wheel, flushed out the cooling system to go with the recored radiator and new hoses - and....

Loving It!!!!

...oh, and thanks to all for the great information on this BBS - between you guys and the books (and *ahem* other forums) - we're very well served in this hobby!

I just love the SDS.
The surreal feeling heading out the driveway, turning it loose on the road after so long. The initial tension and concern, the listening for strange noises, the little false starts of fear and heart palpitations. The official stamp of OK. The happy delerium. I'm dreaming, it can't be this easy you think , something HAS to go horribly wrong. But no, on and on you drive. The affirmation, the ego rush.
You've got some nice winding mountain roads over there in NZ Curtis. Today might be the day to measure them with an MGB.

I'm heading over to Rotorua especially to give things a good test (hilly + twisty) ...it's nice having the WOF inspection under the belt as well :)

Yes , that heart stoping moment when you take a brave pill and turn the key, best done with the garage door open so all the smoke has somewhere to go. I remember telling a nieghbour I had got the car running and he replied, yes, we heard it.
