MG MGB Technical - Too small

Hi Peeps. I have a 68 Roadster. My other half is vertically challenged 5ft and is unable to reach/operate the pedals as the sterring wheel ends up against her chest. Consequently she is unable to drive the car which might be considered a good thing. Does anyone know if there is an add on kit, pedal extension or other means to help.

Hi John,
I have the same problem as you! My wife is 5' and cannot reach the pedals. I'm 5'7" and if the seat is not all the way up I can't depress the clutch fully.

There has been some discussion of this in the past. A search of the archives turned up this thread and there are probably many others. http://www2.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&access=&mode=archiveth&subject=71&subjectar=71&thread=2003012115373424260

SLide the seat all the way forward and inspect the seat rails where they mount to the floor. If there are additional holes behind the ones that the bolts are in, then remount the seat in the furthest forward position available. Beyond that you'de have to get a pillow or pedal blocks.

I have the same problem too being short. What the problem is, is the clutch throw is very long. To get a better driving position I extended the clutch pedal by about 1.5" using a nice set of aluminum pedal pads (made in GB!!) and some spacers I made from brass tubing and long screws drilled through the clutch pedal.

I've owned and driven a lot of cars, both old and new, over 30+ years of driving and the MGB is the only car I ever had problems with, except for a Ferrari or 2 whose pedals were very close together even for my size US8.5 feet.

I am just over six foot, when I first sat in my 70 Roadster I appeared to be looking straight at the top of the windscreen. I checked under the seat and found that the previous owner had added a 12mm thick packer strips onto the origgional wooden packing strip under the seat. To reduce the height of the seat I have removed all packing. I have also replaced the useless 14 inch steering wheel that the previous owner had fitted with a more practical 15 inch wheel, when I had my seats recovered I kept the origional foam padding to keep the seat height low. The result of the above is an acceptable driving position.
