MG MGB Technical - turn signal switch

1968 MGB w/o OD

I heard it break. Had up pressure on the lever while the wheel was returning to center. SNAP! No longer cancels from right turn. Left turn is fine.
1) Do you know if the cancelling mechanics of all the switches is the same? Before I rip it apart can I get any old MGB switch and have the right parts to repair it?
2)Anyone have a junk one laying around that cancels from a right hand turn? One on EBAY for a '70 pretty cheap.

Tom, take your surround off (the plastic housing around steering column) and see what you have. You will be able to tell how it is supposed to be/work by looking at the undamaged left system. Nothing to it really, probably just popped a spring or lever/rivet. (That rivet is small,...make sure it is accounted for before leaving car as it can fall into your lap and end up who knows where if you get up and walk around, I suppose that goes for the spring and lever too.) If broke beyond repair send me email and I'll dig thru my stash but I really doubt that will be necessary.

Worse than expected. Broke the main plastic piece that holds the screw to the bracket that holds the switch to the column. Darn........... (Not exactly what I said)...
Well... The one on EBAY is gone. Anyone have a junk one I can swap out parts in? Who knows how long the epoxy will hold.....

If you can afford a new one, get a new one. Most of the plastic parts appear to be nylon or Delrin and they require special glues to fues parts back together. Even then, longevity of the repair may be in doubt. The fact that the trip lever for the switch return is a thin piece relying on its ability to have some spring-like characteristics, you are probably better off with a new one, if possible. When you have the surround off, take a look at the action of the "cam" on the column against the trip levers. If there is a problem with this action (too much slop of the column perhaps) you may want to fix that first before mounting up a new switch. Also, adding relays to your headlamp circuit will make the contacts for the headlights last a lot longer. Dan Stern has a good site on this at: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/relays/relays.html
