Ray,

The more I look at your car and what you accomplished, the more envious I get. Also, I have really decided that I do not like you because you have shown me a lot of ways that I can spend a lot of money, which I probably should not do - but will anyway.

I really appreciate the additional information you added about exactly what you did to the car and the information about your cam and distributor - especially the chart.

I have marked this as one of my favorite places!!

Great job.

Ray, it's a beautiful car and a project to be proud of.

Thanks for sharing!

Ray; Very nice job! I am reworking the electrics on my 77 and would be interested in knowing which VDO gauges you went with for the Speedo & Tach. Thanks for taking time to post your project!

What a beautiful car! Only those of us who have attempted this really know the passion, hours, and skinned knuckles that go into a car like that. Thanks for posting. You're an inspiration!

Patrick,

The VDO Gauges are not as easy as it seems, but it isn't hard either once you have all the informatioin.

I purchased mine from http://www.egauges.com/

They only have one tach that will fit:

Part Number 333-160 8,000 RPM Tachometer - Electric Vision Black @ $95.34

The speedometer is:

Part Number 437-155 120 MPH Speedometer Vision Black @ $132.79

A very important question: If you are using the pertronix Ignition you have to purchase a Diode #1N4005 from radio shack. Comes in packs of two for under $2.00. If you do have a Pertronix I also have the instruction on how what to do with it.

For the Speedometer I had to get a Sender to work with it. I sent my speedometer cable to Speedometer Service Co. in the states and they installed a Hall Effect Sender to work with the VDO speedometer. Cost was $98.50. This is a electronic speedometer.

Everything works perfectly. The guys on the V8 forum will not help at all and I mean not at all. I was really disappointed that they acted this way. So I did all the research myself to transfer my car to ALL VDO GAUGES while trying to figure out the sending units I will need. I did it and will happily pass on my information to anybody that wishes to take on this modification.

Once installed they are very readable and bright at night. You will be impressed as it is so modern looking yet still MGB. Just drive one mile - press a button- and the speedometer programs the speedometer to give it a accurate reading of your speed. Drive off and your done. If you change tires or transmision just press a button and recalibrate. Can't get any better than that.

Any further questions please do not hesitate to cotact me or on this forum so anyone else doing this mid will also understand how to do it.

Regards,

Ray

Thanks to everyone so far for their positive comments. I really aprreciate them.

I went vdo also, on my '67. It is a delight to have guages that work. The only problem is that the speedo particularly is over damped. You can't use the indicated speed to time 0-60 mph acceleraton, for instance, as you are probably doing 65 by the time the needle reaches 60.

Summit Racing, stocks the VDO guages.

I converted to a 280z 5 speed trans. The electronic sender from a 300zx fits the older trans and powers the vdo speedo nicely.

Calibration and re-calibration is a very simple task if you have a measured mile available.

Ray- I couldn't see the crank blanks ( assumed) for the elect windows. I've had intermittent luck with mine, and wonder if a newer type/model/mfr might improve things. Who did you use, and has the motor been reliable? Vic

Vic,

I updated my web site with more information and pictures especially of the power windows.

I purchase the Keyless Remote Kit $69.95 and The Power Window Kit $149.95 both from Victoria British.

I found no problems and this kit really makes these windows go up fast. Drivers side operates both sides. Yes they do also Light up, and the passenger side only operates that window.

Very clean set up and no more handles. This kit goes exactly over the window crank holes.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Ray
