MG MGF Technical - air filter

Is it just the back part of the hood which has to be taken off to get at the air filter and plugs on the vvc ???

Yes,

you have to unclip the hood & fold it forward. Remove the carpet and insulation and remove the engine bay cover, 10 screws I think.
