MG MGF Technical - Air Induction

I want to have air induction fitted to my '97 F 1.8i.
I have head people talk of K&N and green filter, anybody got any opinion on which is the best? and recommend a place that fits these in the Rugby area.

Cheers Jo.
Jo Chapman

Well I'm a huge fan on the K&N, you've only got to check the archieves to see how many people happy customers there are. Not sure about the green filter bit though. On a 1.8i (same as mine) it is stated that you can get up to a 8bhp increase, and at £81 you can't really go wrong. BTW I got mine from http://www.DCDezign.com (cheapest place I found online). Don't pay someone to fit it, it's designed to be a DIY kit, absolutely dead simple.

Jo, I work in Rugby and have fitted a couple of K&N's so if you do want to DIY I'll willingly give you a hand or advice.
Alternatively Techspeed racing based in Eathorpe (only 10mins from Rugby) will certainly fit it for you, as probably would the Rugby Car Care Centre down Summers Road (FYI they are an independant MG and Rover specialist).

Sorry that should be Sommers Road.

The K&N is awesome! I'm not really sure if it makes any difference to the way the car drives day to day however the noise alone is worth the money!

Just thought I would pop this on here, if anybody needs one, the prices certainly seem to be coming down a bit. Don't forget there is a postage charge to add.

Without a shadow of a doubt you WILL love the K&N!
No question.
The only problem is stopping there!! :-)

Thanks for the info Emma, Took your advice and ordered one.
Cheers Steve, sounds fairly easy to fit, will give it a go.

Good move Jo, you're going to love the K&N! Don't forget, if you're fitting it and you come across a problem, just leave a message on the tech forum. There are normally people online most of the time who can help you out.

Jo, the filter is really a doddle to fit - a guide can be found here: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/air_filters/f_fitting.htm

Good luck, and enjoy the sound! :o)

Thanks Rob.............eagerly awaiting the postman.

At the risk of harping on about this (another thread launched elsewhere), go the next step and get a 52mm alloy throttle body - it works a treat in concert with the K & N, and maximises the effect.

............still waiting for the postman!!

Yes Kew, just been reading that thread.

Will a 52mm alloy throttle body increase my insurance premiums? and is it another DIY job?

Jo
Jo Chapman

Unsure on the premium situation in the UK, but is is certainly a relatively easy DIY job.
KEW

Well the postman has been. Fitted the K&N and drove up 't north to see the family. WOW well chuffed, the noise is fantastic. Thanks for the link Rob and Tom your brackets work a treat.
