MG MGF Technical - But, Sir, your nut is so HUGE!

Trying to adjust the valves on my '76 1500. Should be simple, right? But what the hell size is that gigantic crankshaft nut?? I can't get a tool on it to rotate the engine. Measuring with a caliper shows me about 1 7/8" but the offset box end (right?) is going to be expensive to order and I want to make sure of the size. Thenk yew!
