MG MGF Technical - Leaking Damper on TF

Can anybody tell me if a leaking FNS damper is an MOT failure?
David (cant log in at work)

If it is visably damp or oily, yes. How old is it?
Tony

My rear n/s damper started leaking after about 20k miles. As for the MOT, see http://www.ukmot.com/mot_check.asp:

"Shock absorbers must not leak and must be secure (the vehicle will be 'bounced' by the Tester to check that they damp the springs adequately)."

My mgtf is nearly 5 years old registered May 2002.

Pretty fed up as this was a pssing mention on my service sheet, even when they had had the car for 8 - yes eight - days for the service. Now I will have to find another garage to do the work.

I f I had known earlier I could have chosen to have uprated ones or at least this fixed at the same time.

David,

If you still have Pete's number from Carserve, he did mine for half the price Trident wanted (an hour's labour plus the part). Let me know if you need his number again.

Cheers,
Tim

Tim,
thanks I,ve still got his number.

Did you fit just one or a pair? I assume you had tracking done after fitting as well.

David

Tim,
forgot to say, I wish I had gone to Tech-Speed for the service now - at least the job would have been done right. In fact I think Trident or Kingsbury would have done a better job and provided better service than where I went.
David

I specifically asked about changing the pair but both Trident and Pete said it would be OK to just do one and that the tracking didn't need to be done as on the back it's just a simple bolt-on job. On the front it might be different. I had half a mind to go for the MGOC's "comfort" handling pack dampers all round but money was too tight to fork out £500 or whatever it is plus fitting for each corner!

Cheers,
Tim

Yes the MGOC is the Koni set which I looked at, but I wasn't sure how they would go with my X-power springs and the price is high. Especially when I have just paid more than I should for service work.

I have looked at the Bilstiens but they are as expensive. The Spax are a lot cheaper, but still £300 plus fitting.

How much was the OEM part. I probably should just pick up the phone really shouldn't I lol.
David

OEM part was about £160 from memory.
