MG MGF Technical - MG TF Vin

Hi,

Tucked away in the News section regarding the MG TF debut at Brussels...

'The first MG TF built will carry a 0101 VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) suffix, following an MG tradition that has used the last three numbers of the companys telephone number - Longbridge is 0121 475 2101. Abingdon MGs from 1930 were started at 0251 (Abingdon 251), with MG Magnette ZAs and TF midgets using a 0501 VIN following the companys BMC Headquarters in Birmingham having the 1501 telephone number.'

I take this to mean that there will be a new VIN prefix for the TF so the serial numbers will indeed start from scratch, or 101 if you want to be picky.

Regards, Kes.

Correct, had a discussion about this with the author of the press release on Tuesday. Use of the current Longbridge tel number is a nice touch. Any bets on how long before BT screws things up with a new 'Big Number' change??

To ask a stupid question (and to give Dieter his queue!): what was the serial number part of the VIN of the 1st F then?

I know the "press" cars were < 100 (I think Mel still has one of them in his garage, having not sold it on yet).

Cheers !
I'd bet on Prefix 3D

I will not go on then and collect VIN related product changes etc. of the MG TF.
A subject for someone else then.
The old MGF collection is still not ready and so much nice further history works.

Got about 500 VINs of 77.000 ;)
Where are the other 76.500 owners who did not enter the old list ?

Special interest still for Edition model VIN's like for the Abingdon and the LE75 (including Ed. No.), Trophy 160 also.

Neil,

the 'really first' ?
AD000001... AD000098 built as first serie for introduction and registered as press cars
then
AD000251 start of sales

The first 98 are said to be crunshed, but thats not true. Well not the complete range.
No AD000050 was offered in an english Newspaper for sale two years ago. And I've seen myself a flame red MGF with VIN AD000074 in 1999.
