MG MGF Technical - MGF 2000 Review

Hello everyone

Yesterday I took delivery of a new silver MGF VVC.
It arrived by transporter with 8 miles on the clock, with black and red leather option inside. Its my first MGF and I love it, no I really do!

My last car was a Pug 306 GTi6, which I thought was quite special, how wrong was I?! Before writing this I read a lot of this BBS and was suprised by the amount of negative things, a lot of which I couldnt find with the car, the interior is very nice and the exterior is just very sexy, with its clear indicators, 16" alloys etc....
I also read the comments about the stereo, which I dont agree with, for a standard stereo system it is the best by far I have heard and compares to a Lexus I once borrowed.
My only bad comment is the alloy gearknob was freezing this morning, perhaps an optional extra "heated gear knob"? :-) I believe the steering wheels has changed in the update and I can confirm its diddly and great fun.

My hope is that now BMW have got hold of Rover the build quality will stand up the test of time. But initial inspection seems very comforting.

Admitadley (can't spell) i've only had the car a day but i'm sure of this I can't wait to get home tonight <grin>, its just a shame I work in the city and don't get home until 7:30, all that missed driving time.....

Welcome Matt,

Make sure you pile on those 500 miles quickly so you can start enjoying the car. Although running in was initially frustrating, I thought it was a nice situation to be in !!

I like the idea of a heated gearknob !! Maybe it should have a cooling for the summer option as well.

I have a momo gearknob which gets very hot in the summer when parked with the roof down. I keep thinking of that scene in Indiana Jones where that guy's hand gets burnt by grabbing that hot medallion !!!

Cheers,

Daniel - T706 EFC.

Hi

Thanks for your comments Ted and Daniel, I hope you two
arent using the web during office hours :-)

I think I will definatly join the MG club!

How about a new thread entitled "MGF Wish List" where
at the top would be our "Climate controlled alloy gearknob" ?? Bit disapointed MG/Rover didnt come up with it..

Damn running in engines! So far temptation is holding off<grin> and roll on the summer (can't be long now its been rainging for ages....)

solution for gearknob temp fluctuations:

Pecari (sp?) leather racing gloves
Very stylish, light, excellent (had-made) quality and esp. no more sweating (also great for extra steering wheel grip)

they cost about 80 UKP though ;-)

I tried that, and everyone just took the piss :-)

Hi Matt

Welcome to the gang.

>> and roll on the summer (can't be long now its been rainging for ages....) <<

<vvvvbg> Not wrong. Still, the forcast for the weekend over here is reasonable, so I might get the ski jacket and hat on, get the roof down and see how many other idiots I see driving around in the middle of November with the roof down <g>

Enjoy your F.

Thanks for confirming that I was right not to buy an alloy gear knob a few months back - for the very same reason. :) As for the steering wheel I don't think it has changed in diamter over the original, although the actually design has been altered slightly.

Anyway, welcome to the menagerie - hope you continue to enjoy the F. I suppose this is as good a time as any to point you in the direction of my website where I host the F'ers Gallery - a collection of pictures of F owner's and their cars with a few details of both. And the MG Dealer Guide - which speaks for itself really, please feel free to submit your own dealer experiences. :)
