MG MGF Technical - MGTF Petrol Tank Dismantling

I wondered whether anyone has stripped down a mgtf/MGF fuel tank. I have removed the pump, gauge sender unit. But now want to remove the white plastic ring round the edge of the hole that provides the thread to hold the tank sender unit down.

I need to do this to replicate the fixing for somke new ally tanks we are having made as we are modding the original sender etc.

Tried levering it about but I know its going to go bang and dissapear in a pile of bits.

Cheers

Hi,

not sure whether I understood your problem.

However, there is a big rubber gasket surrounding the white plastic. (4mm thick ring)
Seals the sender unit against the black hole in the fuel tank.
Image shows the white flange on top without that gasket.

Of course you need to unbolt the huge red coloured thread ring at first. (Tool No. 18G.1741)

Hi

I have undone the metal ring and withdrawn the tank unit.

But this leaves a white plastic ring round the hole, which I want to remove, its not a gasket it forms the thread that the ring acts on, I assume it presses or clips on a lip moulded in the tank.
You would never usually need to remove it, but I do.
