MG MGF Technical - New weird noise...any ideas?

Not to annoy Ted, but believe it or not, my F has another problem coming up I'm afraid.

This time its a soft clonking noise coming from front of car (comes from bottom I believe). It happens at any speed, but better noticeable at lower speeds. Everytime you hear this soft low-volume 'plok plok' noise you feel at the same time a vibration in all the pedals, like something loose is hitting them. You don't feel anything in the steering wheel, just the pedals.

Is something coming loose? Why just the pedals? Anything that could be floating around in front boot in a way it reaches a pedal-linked mechanism? I can't open my boot anymore, so I can't check, but IMO it comes from UNDER the car (nothing special can be seen).

And no, I didn't do anything wrong lately. It was noticed one day BEFORE I changed my tyres on Monday, so that can't be it either.

1st. you don't annoy me!

2nd. why can't you open the bonnet? I think you should try because to me it sounds as though something has broken loose - like the spare wheel.

A 'plok, plok' noise. Mmmmmmmmmm, (suck on teeth noise)
sounds expensive.

Then again it could be just as Ted says.
Crow bar the bonnet open and have a look.

For some weeks, my MGF features a creeky sound at the front wheels. How it really sounds: well the same crack which you hear sometimes when you bent your knees: a short one-time creeky crack-sound.

I don't know what it is but each time I drive over a road bump, I hear "the crack". Same when I drive in a parking lot on the way up or down to the next floor.

I did some rough testing and figured out that it must be some mechanical part in the whereabouts joining the front-wheel with the front-subframe. So nothing to do with the infamous "cross-member bar loose welding" hassle (inner dashboard trouble). From the crack-sound I It gives the impression that some screw has loosened up a little, or that some mechanical wheel connection part is on the brink of breaking off.

My July 1996 Mpi is getting old, I assume...

Any ideas ? Better get this checked by my dealership during next service (within 10K kms), no ? I don't want to end up with loosing one or two front-wheels when driving at whatever speed...

Cheers,

I am begining to think that we are all getting paranoid! All cars make the odd creaking and cracking sounds and a soft top does it more than most. Most of the noises are just the car showing its character.

I virtually always drive with the top down, so when I have to drive with it up, I hear all sorts of strange noises. The standard MG radio is ritted with a brilliant strange-noise noise supression system - the volume control. just rotate the knob clockwise until all the strange noises dissappear. This also improves driving pleasure by avoiding unnecessary and distracting cockpit conversation.

My VVC makes a clonk noise and which can be felt through the pedals when I go over an uneven surface.
It is caused by play in the bar which runs inside the front boot along the bulkhead, joining the brake to the master cylinder.
I am trying to find a rubber washer of some sort to take out the play (the bar has a spring at one end - but it must have weakened with age!).

Hi Jason

I know the bar you refer to - question - do you think this is what is causing Dirks multiple HGFs?
