MG MGF Technical - Nuts size question.....

Morning folks...

Its "dashboard out" time this week (to solve major rattle behind and fit my two u-clamps better) but a few questions (possibly for SF etc as I know you've done this):

1.Is it easier to remove the steering wheel or drop the column so I can get the dash off?

2.If its easier to remove the steering wheel, what size nut is it held on by cos I can't remember...

3.If its the column, anyone got any pics? :-)

4.Anybody recommend doing anything else behind there while I've got it off? I'm going to be armed with plenty of foam, sticky felt, cable ties and tape so I get everything nice and "non-moving" behind there.

Cheers

ps. I've got the magic picture series of SF removing the dash during the re-build so I'm happy with all that. I also know the battery leads off routine so thats ok too.

pps. If anybody sees a 306 flashing them this week then its because I've stolen the missus's car while she's in greece for a week and while mine has most of the dash inside my house!

Chris.

Cant help with most of your questions, but the steering wheel nut is 19mm.

Cheers Mark,

I thought it was but I just wanted confirmation... its a shame the Rave CD I have doesn't actually list these... anyone know of a location where these are actually listed at all..

Hi Chris,

If yours has the height adjustable steering column, there's no need to remove either the wheel or even loosen the column - putting the wheel at its lowest position makes enough room (just!)

The heater duct to bulkhead seal can be unreliable, worth sluicing some water around and checking none gets past it.

SF's page was an invaluable guide, enjoy!

Mike,

Thanks for the tip... I do in fact have an adjustable column... hopefully that will make things so much easier..

Cheers

Chris.
