MG MGF Technical - passenger airbag

hi folks, i have a 2000 mgf 1.8, and a 5 month old baby so i was wondering if anybody could let me know if it is possible to temporarily disable the passenger side airbag so i can use a baby car seat then turn it back on for normal use. thanks steve.

As far as the cars that come to Australia, NO. But if in a saftey seat there should not be a problem.
Andrew Regens

There is no facility to disable the passenger airbag.

Are you sure you have an airbag. Most F's only have an airbag on the drivers side, the passanger side was an option, but the dash is so far away its fitment is worthless.

The passanger airbag can be identified by looking at the panel above the glove compartment. If you have SRS stamped into the panel than you have an airbag, otherwise you do not. (see the steering wheel for the logo - it is the same)

thanks for the replys, there is no stamp in the dash panel will but there is an airbsg picture and logo on the passenger window, thats what made me think that there was one fitted. thanks again. steve

If you unplug any of the pyro bits then none of them will fire (disabled .... dash warning led on). The belt pretensioners under the seats are easiest to disconnect.
You are infinitely safer with a seat belt anyway, and bags were originally only designed to work instead of belts, not as well as.
Maybe by design, but considering the costs, probably more by serendipity, the F is a very safe passenger cell.
