MG MGF Technical - re-chroming.... FAO Rob....

Hi Rob,

I was just looking for the thread about the idea of exchange reflector bowls, but it seams to have fallen of the list. What was the outcome, as I am now down to about 5 meters visibility in dip.....

:-(

And need to do something ASAP.

Thanks, Andrew.

Andrew,

I am currently looking for some reflectors to get this exchange started but all the avenues I have persued have drawn a blank (MGFC, Midland MGF, Rover Spare Norfolk) I will be phoning Mike Satur today as well as a few local scrappies. If you have any scrappies around your way that might have some then bite their hand off for them and get the ball Rolling. If you do get some done I'll gladly be the recipient of your old set.

Cheers

Hi Phil,

I'll have a hunt around. Can you email me and i'll let you know if I find any.

Thanks, Andrew.

Phil, if you get really stuck, I'll dig mine out - but unforunately one of teh adjuster ball sockets snapped on removal, so I think you'd be better off sourcing new ones...

Me is still collecting.
Will get back on the matter after having moved house.

Thanks John, I am hoping to do this as cheaply as possible and invest in new units next year sometime.

Rob, do you have a number for Geoff Smith, I have emailed him but no response yet.

Thanks, Andrew.

I do Andrew - just not on me. I'll look it out for you :o)

Regarding emails - yes, Geoff can be a little slow responding to these, so don't worry if he doesn't respond immediately.

Andrew,

I don't want to start the lens/bowl debate here, but have you taken your lights apart yet? It has been demostrated that the glass lens for your dipped beam can become dirty and therefore be cleaned. I am not debating that the bowl also looses its lustre over time but a good lens clean may be enough to keep you going until the new year brings you new lamp units.

Mine will be coming off this weekend to be checked so if it's the lens I'll keep you posted.

Cheers

>but a good lens clean may be enough to keep you going

I read this advise at a MG heritage Forum recently:

Get out the headlamp unit, remove the bulbs,
fill up half of the lamp with soap water, (water and some drops washing-up liquid)
swivel the lamp carefully (no foam should come up)
Drain the lamp and let it dry. Never touch the mirror with anything else than soap water.

Never tried myself, but may be an option ?
