MG MGF Technical - Remove resonator box?

Hi All,
I've checked in the archive but couldn't find any information on how to remove the resonance box (connects to filter housing) other than you have to remove suspension components????
I guess Rob's done it for his filter install

Anyone got any advice?
Kingsley

I used an angle grinder! Some people like Carl have been successful in removing it undamaged without dismantling the suspension. I could not do it so I cut it into little pieces. It was the hardest piece of plastic I ever came across!

btw, has anyone tried to finally cut it in a re-usable way regarding mud protection and refit the half wall partially ?

Kingsley - I've left in place! LOL I should have asked for it to be removed when my car had its cam belt service (also had replacement green subframe bushes fitted at that time, so would have been an easy job - d'oh!)

I think that there are some suggestions in the archive: most have cut it to pieces - pretty much as Spyros suggests. But someone did say that they managed to squeeze it out somehow...

The WSM says that you have to drop the subframe a fraction to perform this job, but maybe there is another way?

i took mine out and is was a right barsteward, tried hacksaw but not enough room, mini disc cutter did the trick but still heck of a job,how somebody sqeezed it out god only knows, obviously cannot be put back, some thing to think about if thinking of resell,Dave T6 DCM.

Spyros said it all !
Although I did use a Dremel ... I have to admit I wasn't very proud of this great DIY moment :-0
I unscrewed the shock absorber, but this didn't left enough space to remove the resonator box.
BTW, when the box is removed, there's plenty of space to fit large induction hoses ;o)

I took it straight off! Donīt quite remember how I did it though.

Hi all,
as noted by Dieter - donīt forget to put some sheet (I used a piece of thin polycarbonate ) to partially block the inner wheel-arch after the removal ! Otherwise there will be a large amount of shĪt building up on that side of the engine bay.

Dieter,

>>btw, has anyone tried to finally cut it in a re-usable way regarding mud protection and refit the half wall partially<<

I did it so. Cutted the box, but made sure that I could bolt it back on to act as a wall protecting mud from entering the engine bay (at least from the wheel). You need to take the left wheel off for better clearance.

Before I cutted it I tried like hell just to pull it out in one piece. Couldn't do it...

Cheers, Valter.

I have tried a couple of times and failed miserably. I was going to fit a Trophy filter box, in the end I just re-routed the air filter pipe to pick up cold air from the l/h side intake & fitted a K & N panel filter.

Off topic @ paul,

:) you should change file names (letters) to browser friendly signs.
No () brackets, no blanks, but _ underline and . dots instead.
Makes webmaster live much easier even if the mad MS Gates supports.

Just my experiance.

Kingley,

I managed to remove mine in tact, bit awkward but possible... Does anyone know if the resonator box change on later cars...

Kingsley, May be we can have a look at it on Saturday at Silverstone.

No change, IMO.
Just left out complete since spec due to new MEMS3, EDC3 compliance. (the ECU aluminum box is cambered)

Tim, would very much like some instructions / tips on removal of redundant resonator box as I'm ready to fit new airbox a la Rob B . Unfortunately unlikely to have time to chat on Sat - unless you are in the paddock bar lunchtime....
