MG MGF Technical - Run wot U brung: Rolling road day

Probably about time I organised another one of these rolling road days. Performed a couple of tweeks since I was last up at G-Force in Amersham (lightly ported exhaust manifold, re-calibrated FPR and a lightened flywheel - those kind of things) - so I definitely want to know what kind of power the engine is currently making.

So the question is - is anyone else equally (a) mad and (b) keen, to get their car on the rollers? 25 quid a car - and if I recall correctly, we need about 20 cars...

I was thinking about a weekend (Saturday) in June - what's everyone's thoughts?

All MGs welcome! :o)
Rob Bell

Count me in. Should have the car back possibly by the end of next week. :-)

P.
Paul Nothard

Kewl! We'll have to have a chat about it more when you get the beast back Paul. :o)
Rob Bell

Yeah I'll do it

which one should I bring though?

Neil

ButI would be more interested in a day at Santa Pod !!!

Count me in. Should have the car back possibly by the end of next week. :-)

So, what's all this then - aren't you fast enough already Mr Nothard :-)

Sounds like I'll have to bring the benchmark car along then ;-)
Dave Livingstone

Since we're benchmarking I'll come along too (provided it's not the 26th!).

Can we persuade Kingsley or Duncan D....?

Tim
Tim

I'm in ~ K&N57i, RS140 head, de-flashed & matched inlet manifold, Janspeed 4-2-1 exhaust manifold. Miltek SuperSports.

I want some hotter cams!

Steve
Steve Ratledge

I'd like a crack at this, not as spicy a motor as some of you lot but am still curious what I'm getting.

Oh, can't do the 26th either.

Cheers

Phil
97R VVC - K&N 57i (might be enclosed by then) - MS Daytona
Phil Brindley

Hello Tim,
My car has been on the rollers at POWER ENGINEERING recently due to the N.O.S. being set up.

133bhp / 131 lb without.
185bhp / 212 lb with.

Can I can down for the social though?

All the best,
Duncan.
DJC Dorrell

I'm away for most of June :-(
Cannonball Bob

>> So, what's all this then - aren't you fast enough already Mr Nothard :-)

Ah, but you still currently beat me on power Dave. ;-)
Who knows how the car will be after the head gasket has been "repaired". I'm hoping for around your figures. Maybe more.

<thinks> Actually no. At the moment I'm just hoping for my car back on the road!! It's killing me to be without it!! :-(

Anyways, head should be mated with engine within a day or so and (a few days later) we'll see if the repairs have worked. :-)

P.
Paul Nothard

Rob

Count me in, but not the 26th its the camping w/e in Wales..

Stu
Stu Dickens

Cracking stuff - I'll get a list going - and will avoid the 26th! LOL :o)

Duncan, you're welcome to come along for the social of course - although it'd be great to see your beastie showing off on the rollers :o)

Bob - any weekend that you could make it?

With so many differences in engine specifications, this is going to be an interesting day!
Rob Bell

My wife tells me I can't make the 19th & 26th. Something about going on holiday. LOL
Steve Ratledge

Thanks Steve - that's narrowing me down to the 12th - assuming that that date is free...

Any other date restrictions chaps?
Rob Bell

D'oh! I can't make the 12th!

How does a Saturday in July suit you chaps?
Rob Bell

Checking diary dates, it looks as though it's going to be Saturday 10th July or bust: how does that fit with you chaps? I'll get on the phone to G-force to pencil ourselves in.

:o)
Rob Bell

Rob, did you ever make last years results available and are there any benefits to fitting a K&N to a TF?
tony

Do you mean King Cone 2 @ Emerald Tony? No - because of the problems with the ambient temperature, I was concerned that the inlet temperature was rising to such an extent that MEMS would start to retard the ignition - for which there is no post-hoc compensation that will accomodate this problem :o(

The G-force RR has much better environmental control - and would therefore be a much better venue for another testing session...
Rob Bell

ok, look forward to seeing these results, as long as Neil doesn't break it with his V8! What about K&N's and TFs, anyone tried it yet?
tony

ASAIK Saturday 10th is good for me =D Pencil me in pending consultation with the social secretary... or Lorna as I call her. ;)
Phil Brindley - Leicester

I might be able to make the 10th.
Bit of a choice of events between The Cannonball Runt and The Red Shed that day.
Can we see if the Runt is quicker with a blonde in the pax seat as suggested at Bedford?
Cannonball Bob

I'll be bringing my TF160, so if you want to try a K&N on it, your more than welcome. I'll bring the standard filter bits along as well :)

PS. 10th looks good for me too ;)
Steve White

Tentatively the 10th is good for me, need to check with my better half.

PS: I can bring a cat replacement pipe if anybody wants to try it out.

PPS: Allegedly there is a decent cafe opposite so we could do an early start (say 8 ish) endunge ourselves in the traditional English?
Steve Ratledge

>> PPS: Allegedly there is a decent cafe opposite so we could do an early start (say 8 ish) endunge ourselves in the traditional English? <<

Brilliant idea Steve! :o)

LATEST UPDATE:

It's all booked guys :o) The 10th July it is.

Unfortunately, it looks as though prices have gone up a little since last time - we're going to be looking at 35-40 quid a car... So the increase is not enough to break the bank. But the good news is that we can reduce that cost if there are more of us attending.

The minimum number is 12 (we're nearly at that already)- but if we get close to the maximum 30, then the unit cost per car drops to 30 quid...

The cost covers 3 power runs each, and there will be diagnostics running, so if anyone has a problem with their motor, we should be able to identify it :o)

For the 10th July we currently have:

1. Rob Bell - '96 MGF 1.8i - K&N57i in R800 airbox; 52TTB; MS 'zorst; 3.2bar FPR; ported standard exhaust manifold
2. Tim Woolcott - '96 MGF 1.8i - DVA kit 13a
