MG TD TF 1500 - 1951 MG TD

I'm thinking of selling my Dad's 1951 MGTD. I've posted a lot of pictures here of it over many years during various phases of restoration and modifications; but about 3 years ago I kind of lost steam and it's time for me to stop kidding myself, I don't think I'm going to get back to this during my lifetime... To recap, it has an entirely rebuilt engine with zero miles. The engine overheated during a slow parade route and the cam bearings melted. No significant damage was done and new bearings and new tappets were installed and valves and piston regrinding and everything is as clean as the day it came from the factory. The cause was the water passages which had plugged up over 70 years. These are now in perfect shape. It has had brakes and brake lines and hoses all replaced (except master cylinder which has had the 'kit' upgrade), much of the electrics rebuilt, gas tank rebuilt (cut open, sandblasted, soldered closed), carbs rebuilt, front interior replaced, and has a variety of modifications including removable rollbars, hidden bluetooth sound system, security alarm, LED rear lights, wheels sandblasted and powdercoated, new tires with no miles, new convertible top, rebuilt/rodded radiator and rebuilt water system, new windshield glass and rechromed windshield, wiper motor rebuilt, and much more. It also has boxes of parts including a 4:3 differential upgrade.

What it hasn't had:
Paint. This was originally red but repainted BRG sometime in the 60's or 70's. The paint is old and cracking and should be the next point of restoration.

What I would like from the group would be suggestions as to the best way to go about selling it? And what, based on your experience, should I ask for it?

Thanks in advance - and apologies if this is against group rules... it's been a while since I was last here...

Sorry to hear you're selling. I haven't followed recent TD sales closely enough to give you a number, but the market has tanked. It will recover at some point but the prices I've seen lately have been far below what they were a few years ago.

If you aren't too far from Prescott, take it up to the GOF next month and spend a few days with it in the parking lot. At the GOF's I have been to (3) I have seen a fair number of non MG owners strolling around and dreaming of owning one. Maybe you will get lucky and hook one? Price??? Ask what you feel it's worth to you. Have one nearby by that's a running driver but could could use a restoration. Owners asking 6 grand. Has been for several months.

Chrome is expensive and so is the motor work but most people don't know that or care. Wish you the best of luck with it.

What about ebay? It scares me to think of trying to sell it there but I see lots of MGs for sale there...

Your right. There’s a lot of MGs on eBay. In fact it is over saturated with them and most are overpriced and keep getting relisted. A fair price is what your willing sell it for and what a buyer is willing to pay. If those two numbers align you have your fair price.

You might have a look at the Bring A Trailer auction site.

There are 16 cars showing that were listed in the past and what they sold for. You can see the photos of the cars and compare. The prices are a little lower than I expected.
