MG TD TF 1500 - 1954 TF Jimmy Williams Special

Just thought some of you guys would like to see this.

1954 TF Jim Williams Special. This car was prepared back in the 1970s for vintage racing by the late Jim Williams, ex-tech editor of Car and Driver magazine. The asymmetric fabricated body retains the general TF shape but the wood frame has been essentially replaced by steel tubing; the skin is a combination of steel, aluminum, and fiberglass. The dash is modified but uses all of the original TF instruments. The original XPAG engine was built for durability and longevity. The chassis has been very well prepared with front sway bar, rear shock conversion to gas-adjustable Spax tubular, Panhard bar, etc. The chassis has been Z-braced between the 2nd and 3rd cross members. Every effort has been made to update the car to meet current vintage racing safety standards. The competition tires and wire wheels (5 of them) are all new. The car is in Oneonta, NY.

It's for sale at $18,500 negotiable! PJ

PS, I dispute the original TF instruments, but no matter.

HHUuumm asymmetric ???? Aside from the cocpit and velocity stacks, it looks symmetrical to me....

STEVE WINCZE

Just pasted the write up Steve, no idea who wrote it. My biggest curiosity is, why they retained the wooden floor boards? Might have been more of a promotional thing, for whatever, magazine article maybe, than a true race car. PJ

That car was sold on ebay to Dick Knudson and his son Erik three or four years ago; it had not been run for years and it started right up. It always struck me as a boy-racer car - not really competitive but with its heart in the right place, well-prepared but a car of the 70's. Looks and shows nicely, with great patina. A relatively low-cost entry-levwel-racer, needing up-grading.

Are those wood floorboards?
The "grain" (at least on passanger side) looks like aluminum to me.
