MG TD TF 1500 - Antifreeze / protection

Can you tell me a good antifreeze here in the USA? To use up here in New England. [-20F]

Now the winter is over and it is still in one piece I figured I need to replace whats in there.

I think it was Preston and it has been in a good 5 years.

I am concerned about corrosion as well? Do they make a special antifreeze for our older cars - like the Oil? It seems they keep changing stuff to work with modern Cars etc and to protect the environment.

Is it possible to do damage to our MG's with the wrong stuff.

Rod.

Any good, standard antifreeze in a 50-50 mix will serve you fine. I would stay away from the premixed stuff or the stuff made for modern day cars. Cheers - Dave

Thanks Dave,
I though it was all made for modern day cars? :)
Would Prestone and Prestone flush be OK?

Rod,
IMHO, I am hesitant to use any of the harsh flushing stuff that is on the market,,, I preferr to use an "old School" flush of Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda available at your local grocery store. Pour a cup into the rad and go for a short cruise,, then drain it,, It works great, and doesn't harm any thing in the system,,,

I forgot to add the last step,,,
After draining it , flush with clean water, and then refill with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze..

Rod, Google "antifreeze type chart", lots of info out there. I recall the new types long life orange/yellow stuff either corrodes the copper/lead in our radiators or does not offer any corrosion protection. From memory and the charts online, the old blue/green stuff is still the best to use. You are paying for a half gallon of water with the pre-mixed stuff, fine for topping off, but not for a flush/fill. George

Thanks George, gentlemen,

I guess the answer is - any Green antifreeze will be OK. 50/50 mix - change every 3 years.

Steve, I will give the Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda a go and see how much crud I can pull out. Do I have to dispose of the solution any special way? Or is it earth friendly?

I have to say I have had no overheating issues since owing this TD. So don't expect to much of an issue.
