MG TD TF 1500 - Any photos of TD's with two-tone paint?

I have seen some really nice looking cars, with two-tone paint jobs....
I was searching for some, but couldn't seem to find them...
Please , no lectures about traditional paint jobs...I know it's not traditional or original...
While the body is in pieces, I am considering all options.
Thanks for your photos.

Edward,

Suggest you go to Google. Enter "mg td" and then, from the LHS menu under "search", select "images". There's plenty of pictures of TDs on there, including 2-tones.

I'm using google.co.uk but no reason to believe that google.com would be much different.

Have fun.

Might want to do the same "search" using Morgan as well...seems to me I have seen more two-tone Morgans than MG's and the body is somewhat the same to give you ideas.
Run a picture through photoshop is another option.
Endless possibilities that way ....hmmmm I wonder if ..... Make sure you monitor is set-up well for color correction or you could end up....

I posted this once before but dont remember when.
Its from an early Moss Catalog

That wasn't quite what I had in mind! But thanks.

That's more like it...Love the bronze and ivory combination, on the (TC ? )....Wonder if it would look weird on a TD?

Edward...Thank God!
One of those is quite enough. LOL

I am thinking of doing a Red over Red on my TD.

Edward,
I'm also doing a two tone TD. I purchased my car in pieces but it came with brand new, in the box green interior covers and panels. I've always been drawn to a certain green on green 1935 MG NB Airline Coupe. You want to see pictures of great two tone MG's? Just google MG Airline Coupe and enjoy.

I've seen some red on reds...not my cup of tea I have a picture some where. Was thinking of doing mine a tu tone Blue but surrendered to straight black. Think the combo I like best on the TD was a black silver job. Stunning.

I came close to painting my TD with a silver body and black fenders and aprons. I ended up with all silver but I still wonder...............

Check the ones out on this thread from a couple of years back Edward.

Edward, is it the "Cream Crackers" type of two-tone that you have in mind? This color scheme was used by the factory team TA & TB trials cars back in the day.

Edward - A close friend painted his TD with a Dove Grey body with a black bonnet and fenders. I can't find the photo right now, but it would be similar to the attached two tone blue TD. A classy combination in either grey or blue. Lou VanK.

This is mine and was in this paint scheme when I bought it 7 years ago. The light color is actually some shade of gray.

I did my TD in BRG and black - the style mimics some of the Magnette paint combinations of the 1930's.

Dave Jorgensen

And here's the beautiful tutone Airline that Mark mentioned.

Dave Jorgensen

When we re-engineered the hardtop for the TD, I tried my best to mimic the color proportions and values of the Airline. From what I can tell, it would seem that the darker color works best if it's the top-line color - the heavier color seems to lengthen the bonnet and hood, and provide a greater continuity.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the bonnet length from radiator to scuttle is the same from TA through to TD (and the Magnette's of the '30's as well, I think?) It would seem that the smaller wheels on the TD make the proportions different and shorten the visual length of the hood, so that long-looking bonnet on the N-Airline is actually the same length as the TD's.

Dave Jorgensen

Edward,

Here is a photo of my old 52 TD. The previous owner had painted it Autumn Red with Black wings and Black interior. I finished it up with the Brooklands windscreens and Bonnet Strap. Usually I like original cars but his one was a runner. You should go for what you like.

Cheers, David......

David Honness

Thanks everyone for posting so many images....
Of course, since I'm dealing with a red interior, (because of $$$), the greens are pretty much out.
Several of these colors would work, especially where the Ivory was kept....
The two-tone reds are interesting, and I wouldn't be stepping on local "toes", since the other local car is monotone red...
Red over black has some merit, as well...I've never painted a black car, but I've been told it's the most difficult color to do , because minor surface flaws stand out.
Also really like the Ivory over Dark Bronze...But it would depend on what was out there, that is not metallic.
If you come across any other TD combinations, don't hesitate to post.

And now, a bit of a challenge. Does anyone have any insight as to what colors of green were used on the Airline? I'm trying to come up with the right colors of paint to order and if I could figure out what those colors are, I'll be a happy guy. That's the look I'm after.

Thanks for the additional input...I've added them to my "two-tone" album.

You might save and print the image, and take it to your paint store....They can mix up small samples, until you get what you want.
I love the greens, but can't use them with my red interior.

This is a TF but you will get the idea.

Funnily enough, there was once a Corgi toy model made in the same colours.

Whilst the Abingdon works never produced a two-tone T-Series, it was not uncommon for them to produce two-tones on nearly the full range of Pre-war II MGs, but they were by order by the dealer.

As far as I know, standard combinations included Robin's Egg Blue/Dark Blue, Red and Dark Red, Light Green and Dark Green, and on special order, Cream Crackers colours (Cream/Brown).

Here are a few examples ...

Attached is a picture of a two-tone paint job on a car that I built many years ago. Not an MG, but it has a lot of MG parts. I'm forwarding this picture (if it actually attaches to this post) as a practice for an attachment that I need to make for a post about my '53 TD.
