MG TD TF 1500 - Auto club badge - not MG but..
I sorted out some old boxes and bits in the garage last night and an old AAA badge I found in a car breakers yard 25-30 years ago showed up. (See enclosed pic) Is this from Lima Ohio, and is there still an AAA chapter there? regards, Jan ![]() |

Jan: Not sure if there is Jan but that badge would look good on the grill of any T-series. Jc |

Jan, Very neat piece. A quick "google" shows some contact info for AAA in Lima. Maybe they could put a date on it? Wild that it ended up in Norway. (Ohio State Automobile Association?) |

I'd lay odds that it mas nothing to do with Lima, Ohio, but everything to do with Lima, Peru. It appears quite early, say the teens or very early twenties. Tom Lange |

Tom, Look again ...that is a map of Ohio! |

Boy, I'm COMPLETELY wrong on that one, aren't I! Ohio State Auto Association, I think. Here's an early article about the Association: http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=F50F17FB3E5512738DDDAF0A94DA405B868CF1D3 Apologies all around. Tom Lange |

Don't be so hard on yourself Tom...I live here and didn't notice it at first! (Forest / Trees ...LOL!) Jan, Maybe send an email & the picture to: cnelson@aaaohio.com That contact comes up on google search page, but does not show when I click the link for info on Lima AAA. (The name does come up there though as manager) http://www.aaaohio.com/ I do know of an Ohio TF that would look real nice on! |
David Sheward |
I sent an email & picture to "Cindy". Will let you know if I get an answer. Any markings on the back side? |
David Sheward |
I article I sent is from Feb., 1906, by the way. Tom |

THAT IS ONE VERY COOL BADGE AND PROBABLY DATES BACK TO THE BRASS ERA CARS. AT ONE TIME I SPOKE TO A MAN IN NYC WHO IS AN AUTHORITY ON AUTO BADGES....I WILL HAVE TO LOOK FOR HIS NAME IN MY ARCHIVES AND SEE WHAT HE KNOWS. |

Hello and thank you all for your responses! I will check the back of the badge to check for any manufacturer id. Second hand cars were imported from USA into Norway both before and after WW2, some by emigrants to the USA returning to their native Norway with big cars to impress Neighbours back home in Norway where most people were poor and not many had cars. It would be great if this badge could be reunited with an MG T belonging to the AAA Lima chapter. Regards, Jan |

Checked the back side of the badge. It seems to be a brass pressing, nickel plated, with no producers logo etc. And yes, it must be quite old, teens or twenties, Tnak you for the address of AAA Ohio. Do hey have a web page or email address as well? regards, Jan |

AAAOhio is at http://www.aaaohio.com/ The address above is for a branch office in Lima. Bud |

Jan , Yes they have a website and I found an email address for a contact there. (see above). I sent the following to them: "Hi there! I am an active member of a BBS with roots in the UK as well as MG automobile owners from around the world. One of our members in Norway came across this old badge he has had for 25/30 years that came from a salvage yard there. (See attached photo) Wondering if you possibly have any information on it. We would love to know what year this might be from, or any other info you may have on it. Thank you for your time & consideration. David Sheward" I will let you know if I get a reply! |

Glad to do it ..interesting piece. A few years ago I was in Lima to pick up a radiator for our TR. The guy there had a TD in his garage. Can't recall the name off-hand but I'll have to look and see if I still have the info. Was a very neat shop ...one of the first gas stations in that area and had been in his family since opened. The place was like a mini-museum of early motoring. I was there for several hours getting the nickle tour. |

Good day all: With regards to the car badge photograph, submitted by Mr. Kristoffersen, it does have the appearance of something out of the 20's or so. As for the Lima, Peru Automobile Club, it was founded in 1924 and I picked up a badge, in Cuzco, in 2007. Now if things have been kind to me , the picture should be attached to this communiqué. Cheers all; respectfully: Jack Emdall, TD3191/TC6768, New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada. ![]() |

Thanks....not alot of info, but got this today. " David Thank you for sending us the picture of the Lima AAA emblem. I have one of these emblems. It was produced back in the early 1900's. It was attached through the radiator of the vehicle with a long screw. It was made of porcelain ceramic. Each AAA Club provided their members with these emblems to identify them as being a AAA Member. Hope that helps answer some of your questions. Respectfully, Greg Greg Cady Executive Vice President AAA Ohio Auto Club " |

Jan , At least it is "somewhat" dated now. (1900) I'll try him again to see if he can check if there are any "T" owners that are currant members. |

Hello to all! I just signed up as a member this am. Can't sleep (3 am now) as I just purchased an mg td yesterday. My first MG, but not my first restoration project. When I get it home I'll post some pictures. It's rough, but solid & 95% complete...including a seized engine! Also, as I read through the posts here I find this thread on the AAA badge from Lima, Ohio (where I reside). What a coincidence!!! |

Hello Mr. Jackson, It would be nice if my Lima Ohio AAA badge could adorn a Lima, Ohio T-series, regards, Jan |
Jan Kristoffersen |
...Mr Jackson....start a new thread with photos of your exciting purchase and welcome to the group...your life will never be the same (and this will be in a good way....) |

Thanks to all for the welcome, and please I'm known to my friends as Butch. This seems like an excellent place for information & decent people. Hope to make many friends here...as I'm sure I'll pester you experts with a bunch of questions regarding my TD. I will start a new thread as soon as I bring her home. I plan on presenting the car to my wife for her 60th birthday (in 2-1/2 years). She has been made to believe that I'm restoring the car for a friend of ours. Little does she know that she will be assisting me working on her own ride!! Best regards, Butch Jackson |

As I noted in a post above, an article in the New York Times of Feb 26, 1906 notes that auto clubs from Cleveland, Columbuis, Akron and Cincinnati has "just" merged to become the Ohio State Automobile Association. That dates the badge to 1906 or later. Tom Lange Bar Harbor, Maine |
