MG TD TF 1500 - Body tub mounting points

Gents,

Well, it all started as an attempt at merely rebuilding the rear brakes on my 1953 mg td #27528. As I began to work I would notice..."hey I might as well pull the axle and clean and paint it while I am here" and "wow this is a great time to re run my brake lines and fix that niggling wiring harness"......this has lead me to doing a near rebuild of of the whole doggone car as I keep finding things that I "might as well do while I am Here"

To the point though. While looking at the rear axle I noticed that my body tub is not connected at the rear most body points on the frame (no bolts at all and the alignment is very off to stern sitting back nearly an inch or better) Is this normal? Should there be a bolt through the wooden rear bottom rail to the frame fixing point??

I can't find any good pix or diagrams that show this and am throwing myself on the mercy of the court for advice/guidance. You gentleman have never let this old Chief down yet! Please help!

Sounds familiar! "Respray" because a frame up restoration. 18 months later mine was done. Here's the most important link for a restoration if you don't yet have it. Not for sure, but I'll bet your answer lies there:

Jeff, here's an image looking at the rear of the tub from the inside. Notice the top of the stovebolts at each end of the Bottom Back Rail. Bud

Gents,

This board is the best source of info!

EFH: Been to Dave's pictorial site many, many, many times, it is invaluable.

Bud: That is exactly the answer I was looking for THANKS!

I'm not familiar with stove bolts....would carriage bolts work in this case?

Jeff,
I found the same thing on my car without disassembling the body. My tub may not be sitting properly on the frame because I had to drill a long hole from the top at an angle to meet the mounting hole in the frame.
