MG TD TF 1500 - Brake lights
One brake light was not working, the car was outside in the rain. I did not feel like laying on wet ground to jump the brake switch, so I slacked off the steering wheel, slid it back, put a piece of wood wheel to pedal pushed in and clamped the wheel. Questions, # 1, why has it taken me 45 years to see this? # 2, why did nobody on the BBS tell me? PS just a dirty connector. Ray TF 2884

It took me several minutes reading that over and over again to get the meaning, but now I do! Easy, if you have a handy length of wood the right length. Good idea! Dave H

This is where the little woman comes in handy Ray. :-) Could have saved you 45 years! Cheers Peter TD 5801

Peter, The little woman was not coming out in the rain ! Ray

Sounds just like my missus. She says she point blank refuses to ever even get in the car! Cheers Peter TD 5801

RAY LEE, a mirror works great,, or back the car up to a closed garage door and apply the brake when it is dark,,, or back the car up to a large window so you can see the brake light,, A shopping center window works well,,,, Steve

With the roof down a long broom handle can be used from behind the car, ben there, done that! Peter

I knew which lamp was out but do not have enough arms to use a broom handle and use a meter on the wiring at the same time ;-) Ray

Be careful, I’ve put the 2X4 through the seat bottom by doing this.

You can also put a piece of wood between the seat bottom and pedal. Put it in place and slide the seat forward. Use a rag between wood and seat to protect the vinyl front. And leave the hand brake on in case the wood slips off.

The wood against the seat trick is how I single handedly bleed brakes! Of course it requires a lot of running back and forth but it can be done!

I use two pieces of wood, 4x1 across the front of the seat to spread the load and one 2x2 between that and the pedal. Regards Declan

I have been informed by a reliable source I should not be using the term "Little Woman", It should be "her indoors" or " she who shall be obeyed". Ray

Ray, I know it as SWAMBO-She Who Always Must Be Obeyed! Sometimes referred to as "The Government" Regards Declan
