MG TD TF 1500 - Brake Pedal Free Play

I have been having brake problems and in trying to repair it, I discovered that I have no Brake Pedal free play as described in the Shop Manual (1/2"). The Push Rod is threaded all the way on to the Fork End and bottomed out. There is about 3/8" of unused threads remaining on the Fork End. I think the fix will be to cut off some of the threads of the Fork End so the Push Rod will effectively be shortened to get the recommended free play in the pedal. Has anyone else encountered this problem? What was your fix?

Jim - While I have never had the problem you are describing, your suggested fix sounds reasonable. Cheers - Dave

You must have free play between the push rod, & the master cylinder piston, Perhaps .020" or so. Then the remaining free play is in the shoe adjustment to the drums.

I cut 3/8" off the threaded end. The wheels turn easily with no rubbing on the shoes. I will soon know if this is a good repair.
