MG TD TF 1500 - Can you spare a vote for a New Car of the Month?
Hi everyone... Like to ask a favor of you if you don't mind...will only require a simple click of the mouse (or two) every day for the next month. I entered our car in "The Ride of the Month" and it was selected for February. If you don't mind, would you take the time to visit this site http://forums.coolridesonline.net/showthread.php?t=1989 and, hopefully, vote for my Blue and Silver MGTC? As far as I know there's nothing in it for me other than having the car recognized as "cool". Thanks all.... Gene ![]() |
Gene Gillam |
Voted! Good luck Gene. |
R Thadani |
Ok I voted. In return I expect you to send the complete exhaust system off the TC....Send the blower too, I'll put it on the TD. :-) |

I am in too - well deserved - great car Gene! |

You're covered, Gene. And LaVerne is fast enough the way he is - we don't need to egg him on. Dan |
Dan Craig |
I'm in. Who's next ...we should have an MG in the running each month! |
David Sheward |
LaVerne, I had that exhaust made by a vintage racer I met while on vacation at Lime Rock. I loved the 'outside the chassis' hot rod look it gave plus it gives me a whole lot of access to the starter motor if I have to pull it. JetHot completed the look...it is noisy though. |
Gene Gillam |
Gene, I'm in as well. Car looks great! |

Gene Gillam |
Gene, I do not know what I've done, but I'm back on the thread again! Anyhow, thanks! Jasper |
Jasper L Nederhoed |
J.A., Yes, that's the one. The yellow TC was totaled the year after Katrina so I went ahead and finished this one, now I'm slowly rebuilding the yellow car...one more front fender to finish smoothing out and I'll be getting close to painting. |

Hanging in there - in ALL aspects! Keep going, Gene! Jerry |
Jerry Chandler |
Thanks Jerry...just barely hanging in there but if the car loses it's no big deal. We all know it will have taken an army of supposed car lovers who can't tell the difference between a car and a lawn tractor to do it. |
Gene Gillam |
Tank wrote: "Kind of reminds me of 1783" Why? Were supposed car lovers voting for lawnmowers back then too? Inquiring minds want to know. |
Gene Gillam |
You won't get through to em Gene. It's like trying to explain to a Taliban why he shouldn't be screwing a goat. They operate the same way..hiding behind monikers and most likely the majority don't even own a Camaro. Just a wet dream photo shop treatment. |
LaVerne |
An MG coming in second place for "coolest ride" on a site that caters mostly to muscle cars and racing lawnmowers says one heck of a lot about the enthusiasm out there for MGs in general. And the MGs are beating the next nearest competition by a mile in both contests. Way to go, guys! :) |

Keep voting. Where's Dick Daley when you need him? ;-) BobbyG |

I still have a hard time believing this is actually peoples votes. Me thinks some computer trickery is going on. |
Bruce Cunha |
I did send an e-mail to the site asking them to take a look. They responded that they use a 3rd party to do the vote and will follow up and look over the voting logs. |
Bruce Cunha |
??? |
JL Nederhoed |
Gene, Just a bit over 1% out. Maintain the great spirit no matter what! Jerry |
Jerry Chandler |
Bruce, they're just blowing smoke. They won't and can't look into the voting logs because they have no control over them. This poll is run by a generic site where any site owner can sign up to run a poll through them on his site. We know (by his own admission) that at least one person on the YB forum has been cheating, but you have to expect that and realize that the poll service doesn't care. To them, every vote is another click, and that means more revenue through advertising. They aren't going to discourage anyone from voting, whether or not it's being done fairly. Just consider it phenomenal that a vintage MG, which is a relatively obscure car in today's world, can do so well against a muscle car crowd - arguably the largest following of any collector car type today. If not for the strange obsession the YB forum guys have with sabotaging these two polls, the TC would easily win this month's competition. The racing mower (which is very cool by the way) wouldn't have a chance of winning this month if not for the thread about Raj's car giving the YB forum guys something to go focus on. All great cars in this month's contest, but the TC is really the most impressive build, all things considered. And a freaking supercharger to boot! The Shelby would be my second vote in this one. Very, very nice. Too bad there are guys who would sabotage an otherwise fun thing for the rest of the car hobby. Almost makes me ashamed to own an American V8. |
Steve S |
Agree Steve Actually, the site people answered my e-mail very quickly and also wrote back to me today to say that there were a number of blocks of votes all around the same time, but that they could not show these were not generated by the members of their club. They did say that they would monitor it. (Well at least they answered my e-mails) With all the models on this BBS, we should be able to at least keep up the pressure. |
Bruce Cunha |
41,23% and steady at #2 |
JL Nederhoed |
This morning's vote raised the TC by .02 and lowered the JD by .02. 50 votes could bring it up to even. The JD numbers have been going down. Bud |

Thanks all...I appreciate your voting for the car...and not the lawn mower (grin). Never ceases to amaze me when someone who claims to love cars can vote against one no matter how different it may be from what they're used to looking at...although how a supercharged vintage race prepared MG is that much different from a hot rod is a bit beyond me...no loud stereo maybe?. |
Gene Gillam |
Way to go Gene. Lets hope we can keep you up there. George |
George Raham [TD4224] |
44.82% for you, Gene, 42.61% for John Deere, as of 1:23 PM, Sunday, February 19, 2012. Here's hoping! Jerry |

Must be a lazy day in the MG community...cold or wet and nothing going on out in the garage. Let's keep it up, keep it fun and try not to verbally antagonize our YB friends too much. |
Gene Gillam |
When I voted earlier you were in 1st place. Let's keep pressing on. BobbyG |
Bobby Galvez |
Wow, a lot of people must vote on weekends. The numbers have changed wildly! Today especially. Gotta remember to get my daily vote in and keep that ball rolling. Then again, Gene is doing so well that now I want to give the Shelby some votes! Gorgeous car, and an original owner! He deserves to be doing better in this race. Too bad for the vote stacking on the racing mower or some of them might be giving him some love instead. |

David Werblow |
David, We're not really battling against the John Deere, we're battling a muscle car forum who apparently doesn't feel that MG's are worthy of being considered cars. I found the forum that the John Deere owner posts on and he seems like a nice guy...even had some nice words about the MG in the earlier posts. http://www.heymow.com/index.php?topic=22245.0 Hopefully if we keep up the voting and use our email lists and Facebook friends we can stay competitive. |

Thanks for all the support! My wife and I truly appreciate it. These last few days have been nerve wracking waiting for the YB crowd to mount a comeback...thankfully it didn't materialize. I have had the antique car club and British car club I belong to voting, my wife's Facebook family, the MG-TABC.org, the MGVR.org, friends from my last workplace (I'm retired) and everyone else I could think of helping for the last couple of weeks but I don't think any were as faithful as this group. Thanks again! |
Gene Gillam |
Won by a handy 9%, and apparently have left the YB mob shaking their heads wondering what happened ... and talking about how we have cheated. LBC's rule! If you have half a mind to run with us, you're overqualified. BobbyG |
Bobby Galvez |
Congratulations Gene! |
Jim Merz |
YB post # 263 (last page) "I vote twice a day once from work and once from home as a lot of other guys do...." I won't re-post the rest of it ....but their members put this up and acuse the "MG" comunity of "cheating"? I don't believe there are many here that went to some of the "extreams" expressed by YB some members to pad the votes. IMHO: Gene's car won by the sheer number of supporters for the Marque. Well done Gene! PS: I think it is kind of sad the way some of YB crowd turned this contest into some kind of battle-royal. I am not a big Mustang fan but I must say that 350 GT apears to be a very nice unmolested example. Shame it did not place a bit higher in the running. |
David Sheward |
Well done Gene! We are finally back from our travels and able to get internet on a regular basis again. Many times during our travels the link was so poor that I was unable to connect but did vote when I had a connection. Great to see that you won. Brian |
Brian Smith (1950 TD3376) |
The same bunch of hypocrites who admitted to cheating before deleting that admission and calling us names for accusing them of cheating, are now screaming about what a bunch of cheaters we must be for winning the poll. How childish. They also fail to realize that the TC may have received a lot of votes from people who aren't specifically MG fans, just because it was the coolest car in the contest. Just as I voted for the Shelby many times despite the fact that I'm not really a Mustang fan. It was just a great and deserving car that should have done better, and would have if the YB crowd hadn't stacked votes on the lawnmower just to sabotage the contest. I'm glad those kind of people don't show up at any of our local car gatherings. Well occasionally they do, but they don't often come back once they figure out that they aren't being accepted by the rest of the community. |
Steve S |
Congratulations Gene! Well deserved. Let's get another MGT up there. Anyone? Anyone? |
R Thadani |
Gene, As a final comment regarding this contest - CONGRATULATIONS! Your car is a real eye-catcher and, I'll wager, runs like a banshee! Thanks for the fun the participation afforded all of us. Regards, Jerry |
Jerry Chandler |
Thanks for the kind words Jerry. And while it does run well, well there's always room for improvement and hopefully the next engine will provide it. The problem is the car is so light up front that even with the VW steering box it's a bit of a handful on a bumpy road. |
