MG TD TF 1500 - Cat or dog in a TD?
I want a cat for company in my home in town. I have heard that cats usually don't like being in a car. My son wants me to get a dog instead. But I guess even a dog would not fit well in an open mg td. I live alone, so the dog (or cat) would have the other seat. Does anyone have any experience with this? |

Once knew a cat who accompanied his people in a NSU MC sidecar, summer and winter, in Pittsburgh Pa. If only one person, he just sat in his seat and watched the scenery. As soon as they started getting ready, he was out the door with his cloth helmet; had ears in it to keep his from freezing. FRM |

Dogs love cars. Locally here an owner of a sidecar bike has a St. Bernard, goes everywhere with him. They learn to stay in the car by training them to do so. |

My preference is Dog! But whatever you decide, make sure you belt them in when driving. Really unfair if you have to stop fast and the animal hits the dash, or worse leaves the car. Their are good belting harnesses on the market. |

Raymond, I think a cat would not stay in the car. It would also difficult to restrain him when he got excited. A dog will normally be a buddy and enjoy the ride. |

Gordon -- That picture put a big smile on my face. A most enjoyable holidays to you and all those who visit and contribute to this great BBS. And Raymond, a dog for sure is the best bet.... Cheers -- John |

I have cats and dogs, but dogs love to ride, cats, generally do not...Rare exceptions, but my vote is a dog. Edward |

My dogs have always loved riding in cars! Another reason to keep them leashed in is that they love to put their paws up on top of the door, and it can scratch the paint badly. A few photos of MGs and animals here: http://www.mgnuts.com/critters/ And if anyone has additional photos to share, please send them my way for inclusion on that page! |

Dogs love MGs. I have a Lhaso Apso, and am on my third Springer Spanial. They all love to ride in MGs. I have a cat in my lap right now. Not much of a cat person, but I hate rodents more and live in the country. I've never seen a cat that would willingly ride in a vehicle, can't imagine one that would stay in an open car. -David |

I can't keep Sunny~butt out of the TF! Hops in it all the time wanting to go for a ride. (Have even had him get "in" while the car was on the lift.) If the windshield goes down ...the dawg is in the passanger seat. Somebody just told me that that much direct air is not good for them ....but you would never know that by this guy. ![]() |

Labs are very partial to MG's! They make great shop helpers as well. Skip the kitty idea. But don't get a dog just for this reason. Get a dog if you want an unconditional best friend! And check the rescue groups first. Please let us know what you decide, Ed ![]() |

The old story, if you put a dog and your wife in the trunk of the car on a hot day and go for a ride, which one is happy to see you when you stop and open the trunk.. nuff said. |

I think my cats would rather have a bath than go for a ride in the car. My best gal Maggie on the other hand loves to ride.

Had a cat that thought my MGA leather seats were a scratching post, my vote would be a dog or even a grandchild ;>)

My old "rescue" lab Dakota loves the TD. Kidt get a kick out of seeing her in the passenger seat with ears a floppin. |

The problem is that, unlike dogs, cats have a mind of their own. Don't think of taking a cat for a drive in your MG unless you're prepared to let it drive. Have a Merry Xmas all y'all. AJ |

IMHO: Taking the cat for a ride in an M.G. .... you need this. Wonder if they make a left hand thread scuttle mountable model? ![]() |

David, that is funny. Can you send me an e mail with that as an attachement. tmaine51atyahoo dot com |
