MG TD TF 1500 - Cilynder Head height
Can anyone supply me with the height of a cilynder head for an mg td late. Thanks, |

Jose - 3.0177" is the stock thickness of a TD head. Tom Lange Bar Harbor, Maine |

Jose, the definition of 'late' is not that simple. The standard TC, TD and TF1500 measure 3.022 inches. The TD MKII and TF1250 measure 2.962. If you have the TSO CD-ROM, look at HalKramer's article, "Tuning the Head of a T Type Engine", in the June/2001 issue. Bud |

I always thought the standard head was 3.0177 thick, and the TD/C and TF heads had 3/32" machined off, giving a head thickness of 2.928 and a CR of 8.6:1. This old mind plays tricks on me sometimes. Tom Lange Bar Harbor, Mainie |

Where do you measure the head thickness? Thanks Rick |

With a micrometer measure in two or three places from the head surface to the areas ground for head bolts. Tom Lange Bar Harbor, Maine |

Moss has the following stated in their Catalog; "Stock 1250 and 1500 cylinder heads had a thickness of 3.022 inches, but over many years, many have been excessively machined, causing problems with detonation and/or overheating. Two head gaskets can be fitted, which will increase the effective cylinder head thickness by approx.0.045 inches." |

Confirmed, 3.022" is stock thickness. I have an original, un-machined TC/TD head here and it is precisely that. |
