MG TD TF 1500 - Early TD on eBay

What appears to be RHD TD1115 is on eBay (330907822888), with solid wheels and other early features (although I don't recognize the speedo and tach needle shape). It's an EXRU car (does that destination mean Unknown or United States - I've been told both?).

In the TC and early TD days, U meant United States. The TC EXU was EXport, United States.
EXRU Would mean Export, Right hand Drive United States. I'm not sure why it would be exported to the United States with right hand drive, or when U (United States) was replaced with NA (North America).

Interestingly enough, TD1115 is one of a dozen EXRU cars listed on the same page of the production records.

I can picture the upper management at a sales meeting:

"You know, there is some resistance to the new model in the States"

"We'll, they liked the TC, right hand drive and all that. Perhaps the TD doesn't feel British enough for the sporting crowd."

"You may be on to something. Let's send them some right drive cars and see if they sell..."
Dave Braun

I'm surprised that this one is already up to over $10,000, with 4 days left!

Nice looking car!
Looks "well loved".

Uh oh...looks like the Rexine has an embossed pebble finish rather than the fabric weave look.
Another early, apparently unmolested car with carbie drain pipes over the bearer plate rather than "through the hole".

I retracing my remark about the car being unmolested. Tom

The quality of work and materials on the interior leaves a lot to be desired, there is an excessive amount of overspray on the firewall and I detest that plastic top, BUT, It looks to be in remarkable shape, and is largely correct. I don't understand why it has a (combination) temperature gauge or chrome grille slates. I am perplexed at It being an export, right hand drive car sent from the factory to The United States. I love the early solid wheels and the proper, non after market bumpers. I also noticed it had the proper, early chrome headlights.
A nice car ant a real treat to look at.

Tom, thanks for posting this. Really interesting from the "EXR" standpoint. My TD2053 is RHD with mph speedo and solid wheels is EXR but no U! Makes me wonder how and when old TD2053 got over here, what tales it could tell.

Doesn't the rear license plate belong on the right hand side of the car? All TD's that I have seen with right hand drive have it there.
The over spray is real bad, he should have fixed that before he put it on the market.

For a right hand drive country, the license plate bracket would be on the other side, however, this is a car built for the left hand drive market, so... It seems to be an unusual right hand drive left hand market car.
