MG TD TF 1500 - eBay unrestored TF

Listed as a '55, this plain-Jane disc-wheel '54 TF looks as though it almost approaches Survivor mode.

It looks to have been re-painted, re-roofed, re-carpeted, etc., but otherwise seems to have the original interior and seats. It even has the old-style flexible fuel line from the solid line to the carbs! The chrome fuel tank straps were no doubt done when the car was re-painted.

I'm not crazy about the crooked front bumper or the lack of over-riders, or the switched air filters.

Dig the crazy orientation of the fuel overflow pipe! And priced at $21,500.

Tom,

Other than the front air-filter being on the back carb.
what's the problem with them? Sort of a cool connector pipe.

I've never been too impressed with the stuff from that place. Interior looks to be original with the exception of the door cards. Something weird going on with the opening for the door. I'm not sure what kind of repair they did to get the step around the opening. Typical quick resale red paint job...note the wiper rubber grommets painted red. Front bumper sits way to high...wonder whats up with that?

Lipstick on a pig is my impression.

Since it was just mentioned in a previous thread... On this car there is interesting carb overflow routing.
Frank Cronin

I agree, Frank. That definitely loses points for totally twisted carb overflow routing!
Geoffrey M Baker

When you see a door jam like that it indicates major previous work at least to the sills and pillars and main bearer wood. I agree with Tom's estimate but allot going on underneath.
Rod Brayshaw

Door cards look original imho. Sill cards are replacements.

The car that followed this one down the assembly line belongs to Mr Downey.

Matthew.

IMHO: The lipstick was not thick enough!
An expanding rust hole under fresh paint is not what I consider a strong selling point...if that is, indeed, what this is.
Buyer beware on this one!

David Sheward 55 TF1500 # 7427

Could be Matthew, but the shade and condition looked a lot like what I just got from Moss for this TC and the sill piece pretty close to the scraps I found hiding on mine. The condition looked a lot better than the rest which led me to believe they were replacements, but it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.

I think the recessed door edges are down to a shed load of filler. The scuttle top to side panel joint has totally gone.It might have been neat if MG had recessed the doors but just imagine trying to rebuild 50/60 years later.

The doors are recessed into the body on both sides and the cowl to front quarter panel seam is completely filled in. Either someone built an entirely new tub, different from stock, or there is a half inch of bondo covering the entire body.

With 3 days left bidding just slightly under that "$21,500" figure!

And never a reply about anything, including the "1955" year...

"orientation of the fuel overflow pipe"
Good grief ....looked at that again and I think the overflows are "hooked together" ...didn't notice that first time.
Holding steady at about what it's worth on the bidding!
