MG TD TF 1500 - Finally! HBTM

If this is my car, I must have been very very good this past year. I guess my Body guy couldn't keep it forever, although it was looking that way.

Today I brought home the tub, placed it on the chassis, and mated the firewall that I already had built up. The details are on my website http://www.dbraun99.com/mgtd15470/ but here is a picture too.

Looking very good, Dave. Is the padding on the ends of the bumpers there to protect the finish, or your shins? Rgds - Lou VanK.

Dave, you certainly will be very excited about this milestone. All those lovely details come together now in a wonderful composition. Just look at the doorfit...Congratulations and greetings, Huib

Dave - Glad to see the protective padding on the ends of the front bumper. I would up with about 15 stitches in my lower leg due to catching it the end of the front bumper.

The car is looking great. Cheers - Dave

Very Nice Dave!!!

Sweet! Looks like you are ready to drive. Nice door fit!! Let me know if you have any issues with the bonnet alignment/cowl rubber, and door lock issues- since I just did that recently. Beautiful colors- isn't that the same as the TD on the back of the new issue of TSO? George

Dave,
Very nice. I hope mine looks half as good.
Great door fit! Looks like it was worth the wait.

Thanks very much... I'm sure as I work on the tub, I'll be adjusting the door fit. It looks good, but things can shift as you tightendown the bolts front and back. I'm actually looking forward to seeing how the bonnet fits. The great thing about local MG friends is that they let you experiment with them on finishing their cars before you do your own. We seem to have about five TDs in restoration here.

My shins were nailed about three times before I got around to placing the pads on the bumpers. I hung the bumpers to keep them safe after I finished them. I'll have to remove them to do put the valances in place, but it's only four bolts.

I appreciate very much the good wishes and compliments!

Beautiful car Dave. Your personal workmanship is superb.
I can hardly wait to see the finished product!

Dave - I am envious. I hope to be putting the primer/sealer on my tub this weekend and then getting the tub all ready for color. Then it is on to the wings and other sheet metal. I only hope mine ends up looking half as good as yours. Thanks again for your thorough photo documentation - it has been a godsend.

Yesterday was a lot of fun, getting the toe board to fit properly, and continuing to work all the fastners on the tub-chassis connections. I've recieved so many good recommendations and ideas from the BBS that I am very happy when I can contribute an idea or try to clarify something for someone else. So the pictures on my website are part of giving back... but selfishly, they are more for me, as evidenced by the following picture.

My sons stopped by for my HBTM celebration and were very impressed with the progress. Neither of them have the mechanical bug like I do, but both in their own ways have been quite supportive of my efforts. My youngest even offered that he was repulsed by my proposed color scheme and is very grateful that I eventually decided against it, but he never mentioned his concerns and would have encouraged me in what ever I chose. I know my oldest is up to his neck in Allegators at work, but he offered to come over any time if I needed an extra set of hands.

Dave,

The car is coming along beautiflly. Great project. Love the color. It's always fun putting it back together when it is nice and new.

Dave, next to spreading useful information about the Td, you also teach me language like in the other thread where you chased the chinese shoeseller. Now, you used the expression: HBTM But what does it stand for? (obviously not a mg td part...like: "Home Brought Tub Mating") Greetings, Huib
Huib Bruijstens

Huib,

HBTM is an acronym we use in our family, sort of an inside joke. It stands for "Happy Birthday To Me". The response is always "HBTY".

HBTM is used as a catch-all excuse for doing exactly what you want on your birthday. On my birthday, I spent the entire day in the garage mating the tub to the car; and then the evening with my boys and my daughters-in-laws. I also drank a copious amount of Jack Daniels, and all in all, had a pretty fine day!

HBTM is not in universal use!

Thanks again everyone for the kind comments and encouragement.

Dave
I could spend hours drooling over your web site. Saves me untold hours. I can't even imagine my TD at that level. Congrats on your milestone.

So Dave, if I understand it well, than we can congratulate you also for your birthday and wish you many happy years of TD fun and family joy and happiness and of course appropriate amounts of Daniels. Happy birthday to you!!!
Greetings, Huib
