MG TD TF 1500 - Foot rest
In taking my TD apart, it was noted that the foot rest has a curve to it and should be flat. Mine is concave. The metal on the edge does not look bent as I would expect if it were bent in. So, I ask the group if anyone has seen a foot rest that is curved?

My foot rest is flat, with an "X" indentation for reinforcement. I wouldn't think it should be concave, unless a paniked passenger was trying to help apply the brakes! ;-)

I recently purchased one fabricated new from Kilmartin in Victoria. Quality work at a very reasonable price. The foot rest plane is flat with an X. I can take some pics if you require. It's yet to be fitted. Cheers Peter TD 5801

Mind is curved due to my wife constantly stepping on the bake.

Flat seems to be correct, but with the thick edge it seems odd that the steel would not have wrinkled when it was pushed in. I tried putting it on the concrete garage floor and straightening it. The side metal wrinkled. Not hard to fix, but I thought I would check prior to banging on it.

I have a bare one in the shop off this 50 Bruce. You want a picture or two?

If you fit it with a hinge it makes for extra touring storage. I actually fitted a carpeted hinged flap and my spare dizzy, coil, fuel pump and plugs are in there. Ray TF 2884

I didn’t fix mine down at all, though it has an overmat resting on it, and it stays in place. The fewer holes the better. Dave H

The fastenings are already in place in the floorboard and toeboard so no extra holes. If it is not fastened your passenger ( if short ) has nowhere to brace and will submarine on hard braking. Ray

I doubt it Ray. I have seatbelts. Also new floorboards on my car. No short passengers allowed! Dave H

When Bill took out that footrest we were surprised to see it curved. Bruce and I gave it a quick going over and it did not look like it was simply bent as the sides showed no creases or bends. I have never seen one curved and I could not fathom why it would be that way. Bill was convinced someone just bent it which is probably true, but they did a good job. :-)

Post a picture La Verne. I will take some of mine. My car did not have one when I got it and I think I got it off Ebay. It might not be from a TD, but other than the curve, it looks just like a TD flat rest.

Interesting that I didn't take any pictures of the ones in the TD I had or the TF with the exception of this one when I bought the TF. I do remember that it was covered with a non skid type material which I removed and covered with carpet, but you can still see the "X" stamping in it.

I put mine in my storage locker prior to taking any pictures, but your edge looks thicker than mine.
