MG TD TF 1500 - Heights of Danger

For those of you with very little to do (I'm pointing at myself here) I received this week my latest DVD featuring an mg td. Called "Heights of Danger" it was produced by British Pathe in 1953 and is the story of this TD racing through Europe. Although part of the film is available on the Pathe website, this copy is actually pretty good quality and the car looks mostly original. Anyway, I make no recommendations as to the acting or story line, definitely not an Academy Award winner, but not a bad hour spent when time permits. Oh yea, I have no connection, whatever with the company that has brought this out etc. etc. I should add that this dvd also comes with what they call a bonus feature, which is badly mislabeled but also offers some pretty good quality TD footage from Pathe. .... You can actually watch the entire film online, but I'm sure the DVD is better quality. Not a great film but fun if you have nothing else to do for just under two hours.

Where can I find the film online?

If I had simply looked on the Pathe Web site I would have found it without asking. Here is the link for it. http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=83626

Chris,

Thank you for telling us about this film. I watched it this evening. Actually not too bad. I thought I recognized on e of the bad guys and it turns out that it was Sebastian Cabot who was a famous film and TV actor who was best known here in the US as the butler on the television series called Family Affair.

Chris thanks for posting this!
Great shots and audio of the TD!
Love that Mrs. B & the kids don't use the doors..just hop right in.
Maybe we could all learn something here...how many threads have been on here about door allingment?
Doors are overratted ...just hop over them!
Family of 5 in a TD, loaded to the gills with lugage, 2 spare tyres, and they still hook-up a rope to pull a full size sedan to the garage for repairs!
You go lil' TD!
Anybody besides me long for the days when "the kids" could not only talk to a stranger but be friends with him?

Mike ...Thanks...I knew he looked familure "Sebastian Cabot" missed it on the credits been driving me nuts.

Where you been Dave? Sent you an email the other day but it bounced back.

That is so great on so many levels.... the closing credits are just too cute.....
And it is neat to see Sebastian Cabot from 1953....

Notice the bucket seats.....yet the carbs looked small?

Had a falling out with my IP (TWC) $170 a month for service that did not work everytime the wind exceeeded 2 MHP. Too many eggs in one basket IP/phone/TV and none of it working! Couldn't even get on-line long enough to pay them...so I mailed them a picture of our TV screen "PLEASE WAIT" and computer screen "NO CONNECTION" and explaned I would call them...IF the phone worked!

Yes, the hillclimb was Prescott interspersed with various off-road activity.

What a great picture! Thanks to Chris Malcolm for pointingit out. They don't make black and white pictures like this any more - the heros of shining white rightousness and the badies of the blackest evil. And the thick-as-a-short-plank father saved only by the oh-so-clever kids - not done now.

But slamming the doors on the TD - it hurt every time I saw it. However, having the TD outrace the Jag made up for it.

What was the badies' car? a Riley?

The baddies in the rally have a Riley 2.5. The boss has an Armstrong Siddeley.

The Riley 1.5 and 2.5 were pretty similar...this the 2.5

Those cars had to be real "slugs" if a TD could pass them going up an alpine road.
Where do you get those grubby looking helmets?
Gord, I'll bet you have one.
Wot a great movie, especially if you grew up in that era.

....colin, colin, colin....hollywood (or the British equivalent)....I mean they passed an XK120 to win didn't they????
(the wolseley 2.6 would run rings around the TD on most straights)
