MG TD TF 1500 - Help needed on mg td

Iam looking to purchase mg td down the road from me. The number on the front left frame appears to be DT5171 the title has the vin as FLA17964. This doesnt seem to add up from what I have read. Can someone steer me in the direction so I can figure this out. If I posted this in the wrong area I appologize. Thanks Bob

Maybe it is a kit car and not an original MG TD. The numbers you presented are not appropriate for a TD. Pictures would help.

The frame number is TD5171 I typed wrong but the vin FLA 17964 Iam thinking might be a state assigned number. All the parts on the car look original.

Look at the brass plates on the left side of the engine compartment and see what they say. Of course they could be changed/modified. Also curious as the engine number, on the right side of the block near the drain tap.There should be an octagonal brass tag with the number stamped i. My originally purchased in Florida TD has a combo of the frame and engine number on the title. But that could be an issue if the actual # and the vin on the title don't relate! George

PS- according to the T Register data base, TD# 5171 had original motor #5517. 17964 should have engine #17977.

If you want some good opinions on its value before you plunk down your cash, post some pictures here and the asking price.

Actually , if you explain that you need the pictures to show the members of this forum, and he comes up with some excuse that he doesn't have any, you might suspect that something is amiss with the car!!

I would agree. This group is about as good as they get at looking at pictures of TD's and giving a good indication of issues.
