MG TD TF 1500 - Help - TF Radiator Measurement Needed

I am going to have my radiator cleaned out next week and - after removing it from the car - I noticed that the core had been repaired or replaced at some point in the past.

When this prior work was done, the repair was made incorrectly and the result is that the top tank now sits a little higher than it did originally - the two side straps that are joined to the tank illustrate this slight increase in height and I am thinking about having the proper height restored.

If next week's tank cleaning requires the top tank to be reomoved, I think I will have the tubes cut back in order to restore the proper distance between tanks.

Currently, my top and bottom tanks are 12 and 3/8ths inches apart (inside measurement from top of bottom tank to bottom of top tank.

I am guessing that is should be cut back to about 12 inches.

Could any TF owners with a radiator that is out of the car make a measurement and let me know what you find? I may just realign the side straps with the old solder marks - but I just thought I would ask the group first.

I will post some pictures to show you what I am talking about

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

Jeff

Here are two pictures that show the measurement needed and the improper side strap attachment.

Jeff -- Just went out and did the measurements on my '54 mgtf radiator and the corresponding measurements are: 12" and 1/2". Hope this helps.

Jeff, sent you an email direct.
You are welcome to run up and look at my radiator. Larry

Jeff:

I measured mine and the distance is right at 12". The side straps conform as they are supposed to and everything fits as it should. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the responses - it seems as if 12 inches is the general distance from the top of the bottom tank to the bottom of the top tank.

That distance should allow the side straps to properly wrap up and over the top tank - with the top tank fitting inside the cutout at the upper ends of the side straps.

I'll see if I can get it repaired this week and post some "after" pictures before I drop it back into the car.

Thanks again,

Jeff

I thought I would enter a short update on this. I have taken the radiator to Sim's Radiator in Decatur, GA - just East of Atlanta. I talked with "Hoke" who seems to be the old-school type of radiator guy. He told me that they would go in and remove the top and bottom tanks and would use the 12 inch measurement to restore the proper distance - using a new core that he is having made in Texas. He suggested a staggered tube core that features straight, louvered fins. He said this would be the best option on the core.

He also assured me that he would not misplace my Morris Radiator ID tag. I hope to have it back in 2 or 3 weeks.

Hope I get back a nice job. I walked out and later realized that I didn't ask about price - so, I may be screaming later!

If ya gotta ask you can't afford it.
